I watched this 1972 gem last night for the first time, initially unaware that it was a big Coen Brothers favorite. It didn’t take long to see why, though - it’s SO in their wheelhouse! Truly revelatory to me. I can only imagine how thrilled they were to land Paul Newman in The Hudsucker Proxy. 👍

I’ve been chatting about the roster of great burly, bellowing character actors the Coen brothers utilize in their films. The late great Jon Polito penned a candid, catty autobiography that’s a very fun read.

The Corman retrospective on TCM continues to bless me with first-time watches. Just finished viewing Bogdanovich’s TARGETS (1968) and am truly stunned. What an amazing directorial debut, especially given the film’s backstory. @gayofthedead.bsky.social surely you’ve watched this shocker before?

Having access to the Turner Classic Movies app again leads to productive viewing. This past weekend I saw Watership Down, a Roger Corman doc & 3 of his films (The Trip, Gas-s-s-s & Bloody Mama). I also watched The Dark Crystal at my local Flix Brewhouse, and the finale of DTF St Louis. 👍👍

I finally got to see Sirat after hearing @dlelandwhite.bsky.social and @aduralde.bsky.social’s thorough review on @linoleumcast.bsky.social. I’d already forgotten the spoiler details they covered, so when the shocks happened in the film I was traumatized just as the director intended. Incredible! 😱
