It’s pretty rare that behind the scenes stuff makes it impossible for me to be open to a movie’s qualities but I adore Morton and I watched HER the whole time only thinking of that, could not approach the movie on its terms, and it honestly turned me against the rest of Jonze’s work juuust a smidge.

Air travel IS better too. You used to have to arrive 2+ hours early just to check in and get your stupid ticket. Now I’m changing seats, picking a meal, checking in before I arrive, printing a bag tag in seconds. I’m usually at the airport 50-60 min ahead of departure with PLENTY of time to spare.

It’s funny that people say that gen AI can bring their vision to life but gen AI is so aesthetically repulsive that you then have to go…….so WAS that your vision or….

I came to a part in PACHINKO where it was so devastating that I had to set it down for the rest of the day. I tried to keep reading and I couldn’t. As someone who has only cried 3-4 times at movies, that’s about as palpable as it gets.

Sometimes I see very long threads between people arguing back and forth dozens of times and man….realized long ago I don’t have the energy for it. After like two rounds these days I’m like “hey you’re probably right!” or I just throw a like on their last comment and move on.
Can't think of a thing that will radicalize a generation faster than "you've gotta let that old man in the corner over there see what's inside those pants before you play Kindergarten volleyball."

I haven’t seen the new one yet, but broadly speaking the tech-ification of Holland’s Spider-Man is a big reason why I can’t really dig any of those films, though they have their fleeting charms. Peter having access to that just removes what’s interesting about the character.

Brendel@brendelbored.bsky.social · 3d agoIt’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
After years of telling myself I never would, I flew Frontier for the first time, expected chaos, and don’t get me wrong, you gotta read their T&C pretty carefully, it seems like no one onboard has ever been on a plane before, and I’d never go more than 3 hours but overall, totally smooth experience!
I don’t understand the type of person who would regard this as an issue, or even a threat, but they probably aren’t doing a great job helping the party either, so, works for me

I think this ruins the media literacy of a lot of adult fans of kids' media, too They're so used to didactic moral lessons saying "[behavior] is bad, kids! Don't do [behavior]!", they assume their absence means a work is, in fact, condoning that behavior, when it just expects you to ALREADY KNOW
