Today is "Soft Rains Day" for those who remember this haunting 1950 Ray Bradbury piece. It's classic Bradbury, eerily accurate w/ its predictions in some respects (looking at you, Alexa), and well worth a few moments of your day to read if you're so inclined.

In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs sunny side up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cool glasses of milk. "Today is August 4, 2026," said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling, "in the city of Allendale, California." It repeated the date three times for memory's sake. NEW: I-70 eastbound is closed at Bennett due to emergency road work after the road buckled. It hit 104° in Bennett today, would seem quite possible that today's heat led to the road buckling. No estimated time of re-opening... #COwx

And there it is: Denver (DIA) hits 100° for the 2nd time in 5 days, breaking the old daily record of 99° (1963). Reminder: Denver averages less than one 100° day/year long-term, and <2 in the 30-year (1990-2020) window. #COwx

I should mention something to avoid confusion. While I'm starting Exoplanet from scratch in 2026, there was a previous Exoplanet magazine that shut down in 2020. The domain lapsed a few years ago, so I scooped it up. It's sad when a lit mag closes, but I love the name and hope to do it justice.

Exciting breakthrough in #exoplanet research! Gravity on LHS 1140 b would be about 1.94 G. It has a helium-rich upper atmosphere. Not sure what that implies about the surface atmosphere. It's fun to imagine a humanoid alien race living on such a world and how their biology would differ from ours.
