One last time, she ran through the opening statements of her speech. I know many of you will be surprised to see me standing here alongside a practitioner of blood magic. I know, for many of you, the rituals practiced by Professor Organa are anathema, and it is not without great difficulty that I have consented to work with him…
It hadn't been difficult at all. It had been as easy as breathing. As easy as curling up in the wing-backed chair in Ben's study, heavy curtains drawn tight against the rising sun, distracting him with kisses as they talked through their work.
…but the discoveries we have stumbled upon come with paradigm-shattering implications, and it is my hope that we can overcome our mutual differences to make those discoveries public knowledge…
Mutual differences that were only superficial, like whether biscuits should be dunked in tea or not before eating.
…and demonstrate to you all a radical new fusion of transmutation and blood ritual that has unlocked one of magic's most elusive secrets.

Summary:
As professors at rival colleges and practitioners of antithetical branches of magic, Rey Niima and Benjamin Organa loathe each other.
Or so all of Oxford believes. In reality, their new research partnership serves more than one purpose: rediscovering a form of spellcraft once thought lost, reforming opinions on the supposed immorality of blood magic, and paving the way to reveal their relationship without losing friendships, tenure, or grant funding.
But a series of murders on campus reveals a worrying trend: all the victims have a connection to Ben, and the killer is a mage up to no good. The biggest obstacle to going public might just be surviving long enough to do so.

Or, fake dating but make it fake hating. And a murder mystery. With bird shenanigans. Because Reylo.

Heart sinking, Rey withdraws, but he clutches at her-unexpectedly, desperately, holding fast to her like a drowning man might cling to a spar of driftwood.
His head is on her shoulder, now; his face tucked in the crook of her neck, just above where her pulse thunders a frantic storm.
She's aware of each lightning-edged shard that comprises here and now. Her arms around him, more natural than breathing in this moment. Embracing him so very tightly, because there's no other way to stretch her arms all the way around his broad frame, and she refuses to do anything less than hold every bit of him.
She knows what it's like to fall apart, and how much worse it feels to put yourself back together alone.

Me (32F) and my boyfriend (35M) have a complicated relationship. We have to keep things secret, because we're academic rivals who are supposed to hate each other.
It's stressful enough as it is, but things have been worse recently, because a series of strange and unexplained murders have happened on campus, and it feels like one of us might be next.
Anyway, I was visiting my boyfriend in his study when one of his colleagues (46F) walked in. He made up a story on the spot about how I must have got in because he'd left the window open while he was out, and she seemed to buy it.
In the process of trying to make the story seem legitimate, he jokingly stroked my head, and I gave one of his fingers a playful nip. I was just teasing, but now he's claiming that I actually hurt him, and he looked like an idiot in front of his colleague (he ended up swearing and cried a little bit). I think he overreacted because of stress, but he says the tears were real.
So, AlTA for biting him?
Edit: No, this isn't a sex thing.
Edit #2: I should have mentioned that I was a bird at the time. I can turn into a bird. It's a whole thing.
Edit #3: Okay, so some people have asked for more information on how badly hurt he was. He *did* bleed, but he's a blood mage, so that usually doesn't bother him.
Edit #4: I KNOW you all think blood magic is unethical and that I should break up with him, I get the message. Mods, can you lock the thread please?

Ben stands, and she expects another of his swift exits—but he pauses by the door. In the low light, she can just glimpse his hand gripping the doorframe.
“Good night, Rey,” he murmurs.
And then he’s gone, and she stares at the shadowed doorway for long moments. Until she takes a gasping breath of air, because her faulty autonomic nervous system seems to have lagged upon hearing him say her name for the first time.
To her muddled mind, it sounded just the way he wrote it: a rich, bold consonant, savored before a long, swooping vowel.
Or maybe the swooping sensation was stupid, cliché butterflies in her stomach, and she needs to get a grip.
