A thing about this book: you can read it on a device, but its physical manifestation is its best, truest form. It has heft, it feels good in your hands, it has FULL COLOR MAPS and character headshots, and a bit of typographic trickery (but not, like, annoying about it). Also? it bangs.

Every time I get a new book by Ellie Liberman, I’m excited because I know I’m not only going to get a great story to enjoy, but also something that will dig into important issues that touch us all. Water’s Edge is a wonderful Halloween story that tells the story of Gretchen, who along with her friend, runs a podcast about ghost hunting. Can Gretchen communicate with ghosts? Well, that’s the question, now isn’t it? Her little town has an interesting history with ghost stories, including an old saying that’s repeated, warning kids to stay away from the water. One thing I loved was how rich the details were in this story, from the setting details, to the relationships between characters. So well drawn. This is at its heart, a story about family, and about voices that have been suppressed and unheard, and women helping women. I really enjoyed this! 5/5 stars.

Friendly reminder that four MERV-13 furnace filters taped into a square with a box fan on top is a legitimate air purifier. It's called a Corsi-Rosenthal box. It moves more air per hour than a $300
consumer purifier and costs about $50 to build. The filters are $8-12 each at any hardware store and the fan is $20. When the filters get dark you tape on new ones.
