I am once again asking attorneys to not dabble in administrative law.

Probably human; queer, disabled; super into health, disability, admin, and employment law; attorney (not your attorney); pen name Nova Mason; current MPH student. Personal non-work account. She/her.
Lmao see this is the appropriate place for a judge to have a little fun
My take on boots discourse is that we face a lemons problem with many consumer goods, given the acquisition of many storied brands by companies aggressively milking accumulated brand equity for higher profits, such that price and reputation for durability does not reliably predict higher roi.
I broke 100 pounds on my bench press today! 105 x 4! Booyah!!!
MAYBE when I was younger and wrestling and knew how to take a tackle/fall. But I was also like 110-120 pounds then. Now, at age 40, I might still know how to take a tackle/fall to minimize the impact but, uh, I have enough arthritis (autoimmune) that the impact of walking is often too much.
Do you think you take a hit from a NFL player and not fumble the ball at your age?
Literally why I hated Property class in law school. So many of the arguments were just so stupid. Like. You're adults, figure it out and don't be dicks to each other. Also, don't sell the same property to two different people. That's just awful.
Every time I read about neighbors embroiled in prolonged and expensive litigation over tiny things like shared fences or driveways, I realize that a lot of people really should just fuck off to the forest.
If you are 38 years old or older, I want you to start working on your foot strength and ankle mobility. Unless I hate you. Then I want you to rest for ten years and then suddenly try to hop off a step one day, cold.
Years ago, at PT for neck pain, my therapist proudly announced "Aha! I found it!" while grabbing my ankle. Ankle pulled on the calf, calf pulled on the hamstring, that pulled on the gluten, then the lower back... all the way up. My neck was FUBAR until we addressed the ankle (and thoracic mobility)
I’m not a doctor. I know nothing. Also? Most of the other problems are because of your feet. Your neck hurt? Your feet. Your hip hikes? It’s your feet. Your shoulder pulls? Your feet. Your jaw pops. Yep, it’s your feet. Maybe. Allegedly.
You don’t want hands free driving, you want trains. You want trains you want trains you want TRAINS
you can’t really understand public policy if you don’t think in terms of tradeoffs and opportunity costs
"So it's basically clickbait" - R, age 10, after we explained to him what a tourist trap is. Yes. Tourist traps are clickbait for drivers.
Does ethical romantasy mean the authors were paid a living wage and the publishers were outstanding bastions of workers' rights?
It's been like 30 years since my first migraine and yet for some reason I'm still periodically like "wtf why do I have such a headache why am I seeing spots" and then 30 minutes later the skies open up with pouring rain. I blame prodrome brain fog. Produmbe, if you will.
This article touches on one of my personal workers' compensation vendettas, which is the lack of coverage for occupational cancers that are delayed by many years. It's such a huge public health issue, especially as those end up with Medicare/Medicaid coverage for treatment, rather than WC insurance.
This is a really great, detailed piece from former OSHA chief David Michaels on how we completely broke workers compensation in this country, with meager benefits to some and nothing to many, especially those with work-related illnesses. Really worth your time. prospect.org/2026/07/21/h...

New York Law Reports: never ever ever ever use a period in the middle of a footnote if you're abbreviating something like Legislative (that's just Legis) or Laws of NY (that's just L) or column (col) Unless ☝️ Number. Legislative document number? "Legis Doc No." No we will not explain further.
"I use chatgpt as a search engine" "I use minesweeper as a website browser" "I use the lego pirate ship when I want to boil an egg"
Ok but I think it's important to note that for Gen Whatever My Kids Are, "LARP" is what they call "playing pretend" and has positive connotations. The children yearn for the boffers. (This may just be my social circle, but I absolutely love it.)
I don't like that larper has become a new insult, considering larping is an actual cool and niche hobby, and we already had words like poser or performative loser.
Years ago, my sister and I saw the GI Joe movie in theaters. The one with Channing Tatum. Right before it started, about a dozen very drunk dudes came in and sat together. We thought it would be terrible, but no, it was awesome. They were so excited. They cheered and whooped appropriately.
Got me thinking.. What's the strongest reaction you've seen an audience member have to a scene in a cinema? During the birthday party scene in SIGNS I saw a whole row of young women literally throw their popcorn in the air like a cartoon.
Movies about movies are on very, VERY thin ice. In related news, the kids enjoyed Minions & Monsters. I survived the experience.
I just straight up have a Hard No on reading fiction books where the protagonist is a fiction writer. NOPE.
Oooooh this hit hard. I want all kids to be safe! However, I cannot control that. What I *can* do is use evidence-based practices to try to keep my own children (and other children in my immediate sphere of influence) safe. And advocate for systemic change. And recognize that safety is relative.
What bothers me is "I'm concerned for my child's safety" being painted as "You care more about your kids than everybody else in the world and that makes you A Bad Person," and I can't help but draw a parallel between that and that GOP "crotch goblin" guy from yesterday.
I have a bunch of large stuffed animals. Part of that is because I'm a belly/side sleeper, and my physical therapist kept shoving pillows and towels under my shoulders any time she had me lie prone. It was amazing! No more rounding shoulders, less back strain. And now I do that with stuffies.
This is extremely based. I've accomplished a lot of cool stuff and still sleep snuggling a stuffed animal every night at 38. What ultimately matters is your ability to get what you need to do done, not performing an aesthetic of adulthood.
Sometimes in life I wonder things like... how many times have I asked my children to please not rub their hands all over garbage cans? And yet.
Hmm. I got salad stuff because when I did grocery shopping a few days ago, the news wasn't quite as dire. The guinea pigs will eat it so that's fine, I'm just at a loss as to what to eat tonight!
The thing about doing archival research is that you read documents that exist and you can precisely reference where in the archive they were at the moment that you looked at them, and then report that to others through citation. Yes, collections get reorganized but something is there or it isn’t.
Always fun doing history research and like... I had a 1929 report pulled from the state archives as a reference. Can't find my copy, tried to see if there is a digital copy somewhere. Didn't find that but DID see that the report's supporting materials are 34 feet of shelf space!
OOF. When the kids were babies, @duckprintspress.com and I noted often that 3 adults in the house would be perfect, so everyone could get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. We had some help from grandparents, but not a ton, because several needed their own care... and then Covid hit.
@catvalente.bsky.social had a great piece a year or so back on the downsides of “the village” for parents and/or women. open.substack.com/pub/catvalen...
