Six years since the Beirut Port Explosion, we stand with the people of Lebanon and remember the lives lost, the thousands injured, and the families impacted. Today, we amplify the calls of those gathering on the ground to renew their calls for accountability and justice.

On March 2, Malika's mother was killed by an Israeli strike. Her last act alive was using her body to protect 4yo Malika, who sustained burns, shrapnel to her face, and damage to her eye. I wrote about how this war is impacting children in Lebanon www.aljazeera.com/features/202...

During her Class Day speech at Harvard University Medical School, graduate Leen Ezzedine paid tribute to the “youth of Dahiyeh, the sons of Nabatieh and the people of Tyre,” as well as Palestinians and Lebanese, praising their resilience amid Israeli occupation and the genocide in Gaza.

At dawn on Sunday, Israeli forces carried out a wave of airstrikes on Nabatieh, destroying restaurants and shops, including Rammal Original and a fuel station. The city’s Civil Defense center was also struck and completely destroyed. 🧵

Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil is confirmed to have been killed by the IDF. Al Akhbar, her outlet, as well as LBCI and Al Jadeed, have confirmed it. The IDF, the world’s leading killer of journalists, was blocking rescue operations.

Two Lebanese journalists were trapped by the IDF in South Lebanon. One of them, Amal Khalil, is still trapped. Israel did a triple tap strike. Again. The second strike injured the journalists. The third strike trapped them.

Rescue teams managed to pull injured correspondent Zeinab Faraj from Tayri. However, al-Akhbar correspondent Amal Khalil remains trapped in the town.
The two correspondents were covering an Israeli strike on a car in Tayri, which killed its two occupants, Mukhtar Ali Bazzi and Mohammad al-Hourani. The Israeli force then struck the site again, injuring the journalists. A third strike then targeted the main road connecting Tayri and Hadatha to cut access to ambulances and trap the two journalists.
When the Red Cross arrived, they recovered the two bodies and rescued Faraj, before the Israeli army dropped a stun grenade on them, forcing them to withdraw without reaching Khalil. They returned to Tebnine Governmental Hospital with no further information about her condition.
The Union of Journalists has appealed to relevant authorities to take immediate action to secure her evacuation, while the Ministry of Information condemned the attack and held Israel responsible for her safety.

If Israel tries to maintain lasting military presence inside south Lebanon, as it did after November 2024, I'm not sure it will be uncontested this time. In retrospect, absence of Hizbullah attacks 2024-26 looks like a strategic choice, as Hizb was preparing for this conflict.

Mapped the IDF's newly declared "Forward Defense Zone" in south Lebanon. Its maritime boundary fully absorbs Lebanon's Qana gas field, whose exploration rights were explicitly guaranteed under the 2022 US-brokered maritime border agreement. @weatherwar
