The term that's needed to capture the point behind this satire is *proportionality.* If we analyze the pathologies of the present political agenda through the lens of political judgment, the problem is a systematic failure of opinion-makers to respond proportionally to the issues of the day.

Republicans have helped a senile narcissist destroy our economy, our system of laws, and our standing in the world. But my liberal neighbor has one of those stupid "Coexist" bumper stickers on her Subaru. I have never felt more politically homeless.

It’s kind of crazy how no one ever wants to ask the front line staff, the people actually doing the work, what would enable them to do their jobs better and more effectively. Nah, let’s just get yet another tool so someone can watch charts as they squeeze the life out of people, until they quit.

It’s often hard to believe these companies are even capable of producing any good in the world, when you read their human employees closed an account, instead of reporting someone to police when they were clearly obsessed with becoming a mass shooter. Maybe I’m just too fucking jaded, but I already fully expected every AI company would be looking for power users & spying on/stealing their conversations. Just ask yourself “what would an evil asshole do here?” And you’ll never be shocked by these companies.

Dancing very very VERY close to saying “OpenAI stole our almost-complete proof of Navier-Stokes from internal access to our ChatGPT sessions because they were desperate to scoop Anthropic” which is absolutely 100% a believable thing OpenAI would do right now cims.nyu.edu/~tristanb/st...

It's Labor Day in the US, folks, and while the details of the fight for labor have changed, the urgency and nature of the fight has not. Share a favorite labor quote to celebrate! "Power concedes nothing without a demand, It never did and it never will.” - Frederick Douglass

I forgot to mention my annual “why are pumpkin buyers for grocery stores so insistent about putting them on display earlier every fucking year?” watch… Publix was putting hundreds of dollars of pumpkins outside, directly on the concrete, when it’s been 96 degrees out everyday on Thursday, Sept 3rd.

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

Right-size Scotus and declare their rulings void. Enforce the constitutional edict against insurrectionists holding office. Overturn all their work. Demolish their buildings. Money out of politics. Nazis out of government. Cancel all Musk contracts; seize his property for a global restitution fund.

The challenge as I see it: 1) making sure the election isn’t stolen; 2) cementing this unpopularity not as a unique Trump feature, but as an intrinsic part of the Republican brand. Republicans must be made equal to failure, corruption, incompetence, cruelty, and authoritarianism in the public mind.

This is so good to see: Even in red areas, strong disapproval of Trump is vastly outweighing strong approval of him. This is a key reason the midterm map is expanding into redder areas. The anti-Trump intensity gap is truly remarkable. I wrote about it here: newrepublic.com/article/2151...

Good news, everyone! (Hahaha! Jk) Instead of coming up with any policy changes that would actually help stem the tide of small business closures, the Trump administration is going to let 5 small businesses compete in the Hunger Games for your amusement. www.mediaite.com/politics/tru...
