if it's one thing I want to bring back from the Old World, it's the sense that we all had to be in a space together and make it mutually tolerable. I don't know if we're more self-absorbed now, or our devices (headphones/ screens) make us that way, but bring back some collective spirit.

also, folks really did dress up a bit more for flights (even in the back of the plane), and there was a lot more sense of "we are all going to have to be together in public" which is a thing that has broken down, especially post-COVID

I will grant this dude this: there's a lot MORE air travel now (flights are cheaper and more available to more places), but the experience of getting there in economy sucks. You can't check bags, the seats are hard & narrow, security theatre slows everything down, people are feral

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

For the past five months the only refugees the USA has accepted are white South Africans fleeing equality & safety meanwhile they are disappearing or strapping ankle monitors on any Haitian they can get ahold of. It needs to be understood how thoroughly connected these two things are.

As predicted, Susan Collins comes out against Blanche. Don’t make too much of it. The R leadership okayed it b/c they have a vote to lose and b/c Collins in a tight race in Maine, in which Ds have won last several presidential elections. But they can’t lose another. All eyes on Cassidy and Murkowski
