In “To Kill a Mockingbird”, Atticus Finch is a lawyer, activist and father. The movie forces his kids to see him as a person, while he tries to protect them from the vile side of humanity, namely racism. This movie, and the book before it, are truly amazing for the width and breadth of this hero.
My crazy theory is that small towns went full in on the culture wars, isolated themselves, and failed to stop younger generations from leaving their communities. But now that they find themselves being exploited by giant corporations, they do not have the political capital to fight back.
This makes me think of my old Novell Netware days.

I decided I wanted to feel less WTF when I walk into an IKEA, so I started learning Swedish earlier this week.
My very favorite building in Chicago…. I was fortunate enough to know someone who lived on the 58th floor there. The views were amazing…. Even facing away from the River.
