In OS 27 beta convo with Siri, exploring Plato's Theory of Forms, I got it to agree that "stools are chairs" after previously also disagreeing and "hotdogs are sandwiches". However, when comparing to crab evolution, and claimed "deer are horses" it refused and "hung up" on me. I'm dying laughing.

me: Are there any "cousins" to horses that currently exhibit horse-like characteristics (hooves, four legs, ruminant digestion, etc), that similarly descended from non-horse-like co-anscestors?  (such as carcinization, but for horse-ness)

Siri: Yes, there is a fascinating biological equivalent to "horseness" that has appeared multiple times in Earth's history through convergent evolution.

The most famous example is the extinct Thoatherium, a member of an entirely separate group of mammals (litopterns) that evolved in South America. Despite having no close relation to modern horses, Thoatherium evolved a nearly identical body plan, including long legs and a single, solid hoof on each foot—a feature otherwise unique to the horse family.

Additionally, modern antelope and deer (even-toed ungulates) share a very similar ecological niche and body plan to horses (odd-toed ungulates), having independently evolved long legs for running, hooves, and specialized digestive systems for eating grass, despite their distant ancestry.

While they share "horse-like" characteristics due to convergent evolution—much like different animals evolving into "crabs"—they belong to entirely different biological families. Deer are even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla), while horses are odd-toed ungulates (Perissodactyla).

In this case, the biological distinction is significant enough that calling a deer a "horse" would cause confusion, even if they both participate in a similar evolutionary "form."
