There are a bunch of people going to Las Vegas for BlackHat and Defcon, plus a slice of BSides. Not everyone is going. So if you can’t, whatever your reason, it’s okay to feel like you are missing out. My suggestion: take a hacker project you’ve been wanting to do, and do that if you can.
Only the beginning of prep for the next few races. It’s also Oktoberfest season, so those extra carbs have to go somewhere.
Filled out my first draft of a job description that will report to me. No idea on timeline right now. I feel like I’m burning the bridge I’m standing on right now. Half in the operator role, half in the new role for a team that has not existed before. Then throw on 100 mile and marathon prep.
That went incredibly well. Overall, an odd experience with one pedal driving but the vehicle was nicer than my current truck. There will always be trade offs but such is life.
Gonna test drive an EV. There is a part of me that might miss the petrol engine, exhaust notes, and the idea of a large truck to pull an RV I’ll probably never buy. At the same time, petrol is a single use item. I already have a reservation for an EV, I should really drive one. Soon.

Just think of it like how we need to go back to coal. Beautiful coal. Don’t worry about the environment nor your health.
Smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota is sending air quality indexes to record levels, posing a hazard for millions of people. Here are tips for how to breathe easier in your home. n.pr/4vwW4bJ
Splitting time between roles. Basically being decommissioned as a red team operator. Sucks but I need to grow outside of the pure offensive realm.

Electric Company: Please conserve energy on such a hot day. Me: Shutdown power to all the data centers, that energy can be saved.
Claude Opus is struggling with my training plan. Uses terms like brutality, aggressive, and reconsideration. Of course I’ve signed up for races that challenge me in different aspects. Just about 3 weeks between a 100 miler that can humble ultramarathon runners and a lofty goal for a marathon.
5th DNF. Pulled out of the race after 55 miles. Pushed myself when I should have been smarter. Learned some things a little too late and I’m content. The best lessons come from failure. 🏃
Throwing down on another 100 miler this weekend. A lot I need to think about. Mostly about work. I have some opportunities and I’m not sure which path to choose. Some of the choices may be outside of my control and that’s okay. Then those paths will naturally close.
Went to a high school graduation today. Folks talk about remembering this moment for the rest of their lives. I can’t remember a single thing about my graduation. Nothing. I remember the picture during the practice but nothing else. I can’t tell if this is good or bad 😅.
The Blue Origin rocket explosion is pretty impressive visually.
Spent the weekend volunteering on the SHT, clearing fallen trees over the trail. Sunday I was on a crew with a local legend in the ultra running community. I played it cool but damn seeing the work ethic on the trail was an absolute testament to how he finished one of the hardest races while at 75.
Claude couldn’t understand wind direction and the concept of running into or with the wind. Not until I provided an image of the concept.
A song I would have put on repeat for hours during my latest 100 miler: Pts.Of.Athrty Linkin Park/Crystal Method remix. Just ticks so many boxes to be alone at night with nothing but the trail in front of you to focus on.
8th hundred miler finished yesterday. There is a good story about the last lap. Too much for a post but maybe I’ll write a blog post elsewhere.
Well, that’s all for the big stuff. It’s almost unreal how a 15 mile run today just feel easy even slightly tired from 22 trail miles yesterday.
Tomorrow starts the taper for my first race since 2024. I feel dangerous already.
My daughter and I dug into what it means and doesn’t mean when businesses slap AI on their products. Then the merits of David Goggins vs Nelson Mandela. Such solid conversation around the fire. Sometimes I get it right.
Found this nearly randomly - ClickFix in the wild on rockfest’s website. Grateful for @bajiri.bsky.social for digging into it.
What's that? A new post!? alertoverload.com/posts/2026/0... Thank you @redteamronin.bsky.social for sharing this sample! Very neat clickfix incident

Semi self supported 50k done. Family came in clutch when I let them know I was going to be longer than expected since I ran out of water. They dropped some off to me. 10/10.
