"Orion" - collage on heavyweight paper A long overdue collage commission. Thanks to the commissioner for being so patient. I had so much making this and it felt good to play on my own court for a bit.

Man I'm happy after finally switching up my regular desk for a floor desk. Drawing on my zabuton is so much more comfortable than wrestling with my old computer chair.

Dubyeong (두병) In times of national crisis, it's said that a monk scattered a handful of black and white beans that would grow into a defending army. The dubyeong are plants cultivated by druids as a portable army to ward off invaders. #dnd #pf2e Illust: @kittbetelgeuse.bsky.social
Just paid my August rent and COBRA—$3,000 spent in the blink of an eye. 😩 If you’d like to help keep a medically complicated, award-winning TTRPG editor and writer afloat while I continue the job search, I have a crowdfunding page on Spotfund. It’s currently at about 28% of my goal.
Because people have been asking (and because I know it's necessary, as much as it pains me to admit it), I've launched a crowdfunder to help with COBRA, rent, meds, and more. spot.fund/LynnePaizoLa...
If every life has equal value, every loss deserves equal mourning. My latest column examines why Seattle rallies after some tragedies but too often looks away when violence strikes Rainier Beach, Hillman City, Brighton, and other South Seattle neighborhoods.
COLUMN | Gun Violence Didn't Move to Seattle Center. Our Attention Did.
Seattle rallied when gun violence struck its "civic living room." Marcus Harrison Green asks why South End deaths have so rarely received the same urgency.

Today's tape seems like some kind of design firm murder mystery. The credits open over purple flames an office lady furiously scribbling to sexy 90s soft jazz. Someone ends up strangled in a bathroom at an art reception, and a prop dummy just took a hilarious dive off a balcony
Myodusa (묘두사) This cat-snake produces a healing mist and medicine from its fangs in place of venom. Though reclusive, they're fond of human affection, but cults formed around them have always ended in tragedy. Gentle, if mischievous demeanor. #dnd #pf2e Illust: @gryphll.bsky.social
The university said its efforts to carefully consider implications of an apology contributed to its delay. Various organisations have previously held off on offering an apology by citing concerns over academic freedom - that future anthropological and ethnographic research might be unduly impacted.
Following the joint Ainu-Ryukyuan dialogue with researchers & anthropological societies last December that ended at an impasse, Hokkaido Shimbun reports that Ainu & Ryukyuan groups are intending to increase cooperation & inter-ethnic solidarity in order to fight for indigenous rights. kaih.at/mIqBq
In the face of complicated government procedures to get back remains, some Ainu have taken the matter to court. Japan's courts have proven to be one of the only places where Ainu have been able to win victories in the past, with the 1997 Nibutani Dam Judgement having a huge impact on Ainu affairs.
Now this is some big news. An Ainu group from Shinhidaka is suing the government to have over 200 remains from the region returned directly to them, arguing that the government doesn’t have the right to hold them indefinitely for release under certain criteria.
Hokkaido University has acknowledged that its past Ainu research was rooted in discrimination and prejudice, issuing a long-awaited apology after pressure from Ainu groups and apologies from other academic bodies. While many welcome the move, issues such as stolen remains are still unresolved.

I'm sorting thru my huchi's old vhs tapes, and as a kid I think assumed she had access to a Japanese tv channel somehow, but now I'm realizing she had people mailing her tapes of tv, movies, and news from Japan. Basically got an archive of 90s-2000s Japanese tv 📼

When people say stupid shit like "aggression is masculine," it really sticks in my craw for weeks, and I think about figures like Medusa or Hannya coming from cultures so terrified of female rage that it's literally demonized and controlled thru violence. Fem rage is sacred, and Hannya means wisdom.
Funny how "you're just russian/siberians" gets applied to every culture east of moscow and west of lisbon
