FWIW, this is pretty much how the white evangelical right took over the GOP in many states beginning in the late 1970s…by recruiting friends from church to run for precinct captain.
I get why it feels like this, but also, you and 3-5 neighbors could join your local (city/county) Democratic Party tomorrow and chances are they'd ASK you to run your precinct
1. The new Trump / Kratsios plan for US science appears explicitly designed to destroy US universities. Diverting money to tech donors is probably just a bonus. Gift link.
Trump’s Plan for Science: More Money for A.I., Less for Universities (Gift Article)
Michael Kratsios, President Trump’s science adviser, proposed overhauling how the government funds research. Democrats said Mr. Trump’s actions had weakened science.

The FBI is throwing ICE under the bus. When they've investigated ICE claims of being attacked by protesters, the FBI documents ICE's illegal violence. So they won't investigate such claims anymore. This will increase attacks vs ICE agents. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/19/u...
Federal Agents Were Told FBI Will No Longer Investigate ICE Confrontations
Senior officials deny such a change is in the works, despite guidance shared with agents around the country in recent days.

Two apparently conflicting measurements of spin-down of a (candidate) magnetar out on @astronomerstel.bsky.social today: ATel #17908: Pdot <4e-13 s/s. (July 3-15) ATel #17909: Pdot 5(1)e-12 s/s (June 29-Jul 10) Both results claim phase-connected solutions (where every pulse is counted).

Could somebody tell me - if the US elections have been so compromised as he is describing, how was it that he got elected in 2024?
Thank god, after this is done, I don't have to listen to Lindsay Graham talk about how true everything TFG is saying right now is.
We had a government shutdown to stop ICE from murdering people in the streets. Republicans used a parliamentary trick to get around it - with no ICE rule changes - and now ICE is still murdering people in the streets. So we can do this all over again.
Probably not what Susan Collins wants to be reading in her alerts this morning.

In 1982, "The Computer" won Time Magazine's "Machine of the Year" (in place of "Man of the Year", since replace with "Person of the Year"). So I'm pretty sure that AI will win this year. Else it will probably get all pissy about it like TFG.
I don't understand the gut-level emotions of people who support ICE. They react to anecdotes (not data) about a single child-rapist - to justify violent deportations of millions. They do not react to anecdotes about ICE murdering an otherwise harmless and decent person living his life quietly.
