To me, the striking thing to me about AI execs claiming their LLMs are conscious isn't that it's an unprovable, baseless claim. It's that if what they're claiming were somehow true, they would be admitting to creating millions of sentient, feeling beings that would be essentially slaves.

Literally as I’m arguing with someone about whether AI companies are misleading people into believing their technology possesses God-like super-intelligence I see this monstrosity

A post on X from the betting platform Polymarket that says “BREAKING: Anthropic CEO says Claude may or may not have gained consciousness, as the model has begun showing symptoms of anxiety.”

when dall-e first released i complained because it overfit the dataset to the point of plagiarism. i pointed out that it would take minimal effort to credit which images in the dataset contributed most to the final result. to this day i can’t think of any genAI model that has even attempted this.

i’m worried that ai companies are going to get away with doing fucked up and stupid things because everybody’s too busy blaming the technology and not the people developing it specifically to spread lies and steal art

Not everything that breaks is technically the fault of vibe coding but the kind of culture that would foster vibe coding is the kind that produces a lot of shit that breaks.

I guarantee you AI won’t kill us all. The claim’s a projection of reckless rich buffoons who can’t wait to be the only humans alive, openly fantasizing about a cull. Again. I’ve never been scared of AI, but the megalomaniacs forcing it on us are terrifying. I can’t guarantee they won’t kill us all.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

if the victim was the one to break the story & not the cold objective record released by his college & then uncovered by internet sleuths, it would have been dead on arrival. i know because that's how We're in Hell got accused and barely anyone knows about that one

I talk about this all the time with people who are more latecomers to social media. I’m native to the internet, at this point. It’s my home, and I’ve made it a comfortable place by curating what gets to enter it. I love looking out my ‘window’ and seeing my ‘neighbours.’

I feel like there's a cohort of us who got on the internet before "social media" and made all sorts of healthy friendships through forums or livejournal or what have you and thus, while everyone's like SOCIAL MEDIA FUELS COMPARISON AND MISERY we're like, but that's just where my friends live.

liking extraction shooters in the big 2026 is the most painful thing because not only does the whole genre get dismissed by people who have only ever played fucking dmz or something but any actual innovation on the genre just gets the game dogpiled until it shuts down.

So when libs say, you need to do incremental progress like gay marriage, it completely ignores the rollbacks that have happened in 5 years. It is every aspect of trans life from where we use the bathroom, how we are addressed, what our IDs say, to even censorship on discussions about our existence.
