I realize that pub crawls are quite popular, but I truly believe that the concept of a library crawl is long overdue.

The towering literary genius and fierce social critic James Baldwin opened up a new space for the frank discussion of race, sexuality, and identity in American society, as well as leaving behind a dynamic cinematic legacy.

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

🗞️ Edmonton Journal coverage of the first Heritage Day in 1974 (on page 62! Remember when newspapers had that many pages?)
In 1974, the government of Peter Lougheed declared the first Monday in August to be Heritage Day, an official holiday to celebrate multiculturalism and our heritage roots. #Alberta #ableg #abpoli
Yeah can’t stop won’t stop: you hear all this bullshit about kids today but these two DJs on WMFO, Tufts radio, are ending their show with one of the most beautiful, emotionally-complicated songs I know—Lou Reed’s “Coney Island Baby”
Guardians had a massive buyers trading deadline and gave up not much for Lowe, Adell, and Foster Griffin. Wow.
The Guardians make it official: They acquired first baseman Nathaniel Lowe from the Reds for right-hander Alejandro Rivera. Cleveland also traded Juan Brito (who was DFA'd to make 40-man space for Jo Adell) to the Reds for cash.
Yeah, Wes is pretty cool. I remember taking that one out of the library, years before I had the ability to really appreciate it. "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" was the first album that really hooked me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0-p...

#OTD I was at the 8/3/83 charity concert at First Avenue where Prince debuted songs that a year later appeared in the “Purple Rain” album & movie. During the song “Purple Rain" I said to myself: "Prince has gone folk." Only in retelling this recently did I realize the echo of “Dylan goes electric.”
42 years ago today, on Aug. 3, 1983, Prince "and Friends" (soon to be known as The Revolution) performed songs for the first time that would appear a year later on the soundtrack album and in the movie "Purple Rain."

Trump: "Now we have a big decision to make. Do we take the pavers that are red -- the red, brick pavers -- and do we change them into a granite?"
Still going through the records I bought on our road trip a few weeks ago; A Wes Montgomery LP I've been looking for; first pressing Simon And Garfunkel (w/o the poster, alas); Classic CanCon content; and Danko's very fine solo LP
That report reminds me of when a bunch of us kids found a raft affixed to the shore of a flooded quarry pit or peat sink by the mountain here. We poled out, but soon there was no bottom to grab. Then an afternoon wind rose. Finally, a group of half-drunk, pissed-off fathers rescued us by boat.
In August we average around 50mm of precipitation. After 2 days Blatchford is almost halfway there, with 21.5mm. (on the chart it looks like practically nothing next to the massive June & July) #yegwx #yeg public.tableau.com/shared/QBBDG...
