David Klemperer@dmk1793.bsky.social · 3d agoI enormously enjoyed recording this PPF episode on Major Douglas’s Social Credit - a crank economic theory of the interwar period that caused immense frustration to mainstream intellectuals (including Keynes, Cole, Hobson and Gaitskell) but whose followers ended up taking power in Western Canada.

It's genuinely embarrassing to be an educator, and see all the people claiming to be education leaders in the sector coming up, as if by magic, with the same bullshit formulae for unnecessary change, all of which is designed to get them a better-paying job, that definitely doesn't involve teaching.

We all make mistakes, but there’s for sure a pattern of shoddy academic practice here everyone would rightly condemn if done by AI. It’s also still absolutely weird/politically motivated to go through someone’s PhD 11 years after the fact, and is indeed carried out by the worst people. No winners.

Surely the solution here is just *don't use AI tools* for your writing and research and continue to do your writing and research in ALL the ways you were doing it before you started using AI instead of doing the work??
Somewhere a university academic is being told to "do more with less" by someone whose job title didn't exist two reorgs ago.
This is a big blow. Was thinking of re-subscribing only recently (lapsed in about April I think). Random screenshots of articles is just a great way to use an afternoon.
