This morning as I was crossing the street with the light taking my four year old to school a car ran the red light and drove right in front of us. The driver community really needs to take responsibility for this behavior.

Can't keep up with the irresponsible cycling community I've provoked but just to note, one of the cyclists that nearly ran into me did run into the bloke walking behind, thankfully not full on. So take some responsibility.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

How is this any different than a protection racket? “That’s a lovely grid system you got there. Would be a shame if something happened to it.” That’s assuming you take them at face value on what their AI can do.

Great advice. Focus, take your time. This hype cycle will fade, the goal is to produce work of enduring quality and depth. We need to constantly remind ourselves that quality is more important than quantity.

Last year, I publicly complained multiple times (see e.g. elevanth.org/blog/2025/07...) that the open access movement had been captured by publishers, and we are now worse off than before open access. Well people got mad at me for saying it. But I think things are still getting worse.
