Thanks to those who've reached out about RAISED BY FERNS author Maya Jewell Zeller's safety. She lives in an area endangered by the Spokane Complex fires; they were evacuated on Sat. under imminent threat and taken in by poet Laura Read. So far their home is intact, unlike those of so many others.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

For more than 6 days now a tree sit in a cottonwood tree in the San Rafael Valley along the Arizona-Sonora border has halted construction of two parallel border walls.. This is the first-ever tree sit to halt border wall construction. Learn more @rally.forthevalley and @peccarrynotpig on IG.

The One Sunny Saturday coincided with some non-negotiable admin chores so we didn’t get out til late in the day and not very far, but the new snow - call it what you will - remained through the day

A boggy spruce forest, bluebird sky, and dusting of snow on a near-distant mountain A black dog on a road, trees framing a snow-topped mountain

My conclusion after corresponding with multiple people trying to confirm their voter registration in recent days is that yes, SOA has disenfranchised lots of people and a lot of people are really bad at navigating websites and they’re not necessarily the same people

I’ve been relatively offline/focused elsewhere, but: are there any AK journalists asking to hear from voters having registration/absentee ballot issues? I need to catch up on what’s already been reported but if anyone’s seeking sources I can pass along to some folks… 👀

This is just so fucking bleak, y'all. Rare and old books being scanned and then pulped to feed the slop machines?! These beautiful, irreplaceable, physical objects? I'm trying so hard to ignore the noise and just make cool stuff and it's really getting harder every day to focus and forge ahead.

Worst-timed fishing trip of my life but for a brief moment the sun came out and I took this nice photo (Cheers to anyone else who was on the Kenai these last few days muttering to strangers “not like last year, is it” whole shivering together in the water)

Taken from in the water, shallow waves rolling onto a beach. A group of dinette’s stand in a line near where the water seems to meet the sky. Nearer to the photographer, a group of silhouetted children. Gulls fly in a line overhead. No one is catching fish

NEW: A second ex-wife of David Brouillette, the ICE agent who killed Joan Durán Guerrero in Maine, Lucinda Brouillette, issued a statement this morning. "If you were to ask me whether I believe David Brouillette is capable of this level of extreme violence, my answer is unequivocally yes." /
