I worked in Habitat in the early 2000s. The guy who ran the UK central warehouse was the bassist out of Ride. I used to make up reasons to ring him, and feel indie starstruck.

First look at a few of the Ride goodies that they’ll have at The Merch Market tomorrow
18th April 1994 saw RIDE release Birdman, their first single taken from the forthcoming album Carnival of Light. It had been a two year gap since their last single Twisterella in 1992 which felt like a lifetime in those days when musical fashions changed rapidly.

RIDE played their first gig outside the UK at The Paradiso in Amsterdam on this date in 1990. This was the first of three dates in Europe supporting The House of Love. They'd go back to headline the venue in 2015 and 2020. Image sourced from www.thehouseoflovearchive.co.uk
35 years ago today RIDE headlined a sold out ULU in London. The band asked fans to bring daffodils with them following the release of the Play EP.
Saw them accidentally in Leicester on the previous tour in February and was blown away. Happened to be in Salisbury for the Arts Centre gig - because of the EP cover everyone had handfuls of daffodils from nearby parks and the place was absolutely covered in them. Crushed daffodils stink.
RIDE played their second night at Brixton Academy on this date in 1992, the gig was filmed and released on VHS and laserdisc a few months later. youtu.be/hL-bffg1fXo?...

35 years ago today the first John Peel Session from RIDE was broadcast on Radio 1. Recorded on Feb 4th it included three new songs and a Pale Saints cover. Like A Daydream Dreams Burn Down Perfect Time Sight Of You All tracks were later featured on the Waves BBC Sessions album.

Released on this date in 2018 was the Tomorrow's Shore EP featuring the previously available Pulsar plus three brand new tracks. RIDE celebrated the release by returning to the ULU for a sold out gig the same day.

Five years ago today RIDE played the final night of their This Is Not A Safe Place tour in Paris. It was to be their last gig for two years due to covid restrictions.
