Hi everyone, just a little PSA. Artists need you now more than ever. Please share their art, shop and commission posts. For many, this is their source of income and the more eyes on their creations, the better. Remember that YOU are the algorithm. Thank you 🫶💕

If you're still looking for a quick read for the end of October, my queer erotic horror novella might be what you're looking for! For lovers of pathetic men, nasty women, and people who want to be hunted through the woods like an animal. #booksky #queerhorror #erotica #adult

FLESH (ebook)

David isn't thinking with his head when a strange woman leads him into the woods behind his favorite dive bar. Lost and abandoned, the sound of the night is broken by the baying of hounds and the bell...

FRIDAY FLIGHTS OF FANCY

[Graphic of a winged angel holding a book]

Prompt:
23 | Your book is a runaway success, and now there’s merch coming! What’s something from your book that you’d love to see in physical form? What kind of item would it be?

[Graphic of a talking crow]
I must confess, it is a dream of mine to see a beautifully produced wall calendar featuring yours truly, Oscrow Wilde, and my famous epigrams. “I can resist anything except temptation—the temptation to peck at those who rightly deserve it,” for example, would be perfect for March.

This is just under 6k for now, but here’s a little interactive text-based game with a few endings. Your name is Oli, and you’re a trans masc messenger who is trying to get an urgent mes…

#LitHodgepodge 20 FLESH is, in the end, a monster-fucker horror. The monsters are Fae, but I'll be honest that I play really fast and loose with the lore. Otherwise, "Don't go into the Woods" and "Making Bad Decisions With My Dick" are strong contenders.

With profound relief, his aching eyes picked up a lessening of the darkness. David turned towards it, seeking the light. He broke through the edge of the tree and found himself in a moon-washed meadow. A lush field of pale blue flowers turning their faces up to the night sky. The moon dominated the sky overhead, huge and yellow. He slowed, stopped as he reached the empty center of the meadow, where the babble of a stream cut through the grass and silence. David turned a slow circle. The grass and wildflowers brushed against his knees and thighs, leaving streaks of silvery pollen. The dark trees around the edges rose like sentinels and here he got the impression of their towering tops, dark branches stretched like hands through the open dark sky above the meadow but unable to touch. Their fingers shattered the thick blanket of glittering stars.
The longer he looked at them, the more he became aware of a sensation that wasn’t quiet sound, a vibration that wasn’t quiet song. It thrilled up his spine and hummed in his skull without need for his ears to hear. A celestial orchestra that threatened to take him to pieces by resonance alone.
Nothing like this existed in his city of asphalt and dust.
Fear dripped ice down his spine.

#LitHodgepodge 20 Even if it's unintentional, chances are, there are genre tropes in your WIP. Try to identify one (a good starting point can be thinking about elements that could draw comparisons to other stories). How does the trope work in your story? #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #WriteSky

TUESDAY TROPES

[Graphic of an old man wanderer, with a sack on his back and a long walking stick, and a black cat]

Prompt:
20 | Tell us about a genre-specific trope in your WIP. Which trope is it, and how does it function in the story? How do you utilize, and perhaps subvert, expected patterns? Feel free to share a snip.

[Graphic of a talking crow]
Tropes are essential to the conventions that define each genre. Fantasy tropes include the chosen one, inconvenient prophecies, and the quest. Romance has enemies to lovers, one bed, and fake dating. Mystery? We might see some cursed objects and creepy old houses.

I enjoy writing. I primarily write with myself as the main audience. That being said, if you're reading something by an indie author (or partaking in any indie media) and you enjoy it, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, TELL US. We LIVE for comments and gushing and all that. Even an emoji. <3

#LitHodgepodge 19 Oh this one's a little hard! David's not a particularly materialistic person. He is fond of his leather jacket, his truck, and his leather-working tools. He is probably more sentimental about gifts he has made and given away, such as his mentor's leather cap.

Pamela Jeong 🎃🫜@pamelajeong.bsky.social · last wk.

#LitHodgepodge 19 Most people have a few treasured possessions, even if they’re otherwise nonmaterialistic. What possession does your character hold most dear? Why is it so important to them? As always, feel free to answer for yourself as well. #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #WriteSky

MONDAYS WITH MARCEL

[Black & white picture of Marcel Proust, a man of the fin de siècle who had dark hair, sleepy eyes, and a dark mustache, sitting with his elbow propped on the back of his chair and looking pensive]

Prompt:
19 | Answer as one or each of your characters (as well as yourself, if you wish!):
What is your most treasured possession?

[Graphic of a talking crow]
The Proust Questionnaire is a set of questions popularized by French writer Marcel Proust. Victorians answered these questions in parlor games, and modern interviewers now often use them. They can also be a great character development tool!

In my free time from writing, my partner snd I are starting up a campaign in Battletech. I am currently wallowing in spreadsheet hell. I need to add another unit of motorized infantry but it changes all my spare parts, fuel, and salary calculations.

I haven't done self-promo in literal months, so here's a Halloween reminder: SACRIFICE THEORY, my queer vampire romance novelette, is free to read on my website. Readers describe it as "horny." Recommended for fans of graphic vampire violence, revenge, and trans guys getting the loving they deserve.

No matter what anyone tells you in indie, “debut” day for your novel doesn’t mean shit. Keep posting it. Every day is your book’s birthday. Mine have done their best sales 3 years after release. Just keep talking about it.

Something I see a lot of well-meaning artists do is get discouraged when they post their work here and don’t receive feedback. You have to be social on social media. Posting and running, without ever engaging with others and their craft will not give you the results you want. Art is about community.

Please can you give my posts a boost? I’ve managed a couple of sales but in order to progress and build a business I need to sell a few little bits to be able to self fund this please help me if you can. As I’m guessing nowhere fast and I really need to prove myself right this time.

#LitHodgepodge 16 Mercedes Lackey and Ursula K Le Guin. Massively influential to me and super interesting authors. I just want to pick their brains about craft and all sorts of subjects, haha.

#LitHodgepodge 16 Pick a writer—one living, one dead—for a book tour event! Someone you admire, might vibe with, was a major influence...whatever tickles your fancy. (& we know you're not saying you're as good as them. Though you may well be closer than you think) #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

FRIDAY FLIGHTS OF FANCY

[Graphic of a winged angel holding a book]

Prompt:
16 | You’re on the book tour of your dreams! You get to do an event with any living writer of your choice... AND any dead writer of your choice! Who are you sitting down with?

[Graphic of a talking crow]
Book tour events often involve other writers, either as moderators or conversation partners. I should very much like to speak with that Edgar Allan Poe... I’ve a question or two regarding certain choices he’s made.

I want to make a tea based on FLESH. I think a base of lapsang souchong with juniper berries?? Idk, ideas they float about my brain while I try and nail down the high level blurbs for the next couple books and the full outline for the sequel.
