I really like the look of early New Super Mario Bros., particularly around 2005. It was beginning to resemble the final release, but there were more drawn elements, a bit more detail in some places. As I'm thinking more about a GBA Mario platformer again, this stuff is good reference material.

Tried drawing something, and yeah it’s not easy with my thumb still recovering. Just a few more days until I’m back to drawing fully again!

A three-panel comic.
Flick, Arsenic, and Chloe are gathered together.
They think aloud, "A group name...? 'The Scoundrels,' 'The Ruffians?"
Cabbage approaches them, asking, "HOW ABOUT MISCRE-"
Before it can finish talking, the three have already buried under a pile of dirt. Its legs stick out of the top, as the others turn their backs in a monochrome, harshly-lit display of power and ruthlessness.

Flick carries a stack of boxes up a sloped sidewalk.
Cabbage, her robot, follows behind.
Flick looks back, noticing a label above Cabbage’s head. Its name is written out, and Flick notices that the word “bag” within the name is emphasized.
She goes to reach for it, but the label floats out of reach.
Flick goes back to carrying the boxes, now grumpy, as Cabbage’s expression is unchanged, the label still far above it.

An 8-panel comic, drawn in a low-resolution, black-and-white style.
A toothed creature wears a sticker that says “SALE.” It gestures towards a hanging cage, containing a wig. It says, “I’m selling Jim’s hair for $1.”
Eyeguy shouts, “$2!”
The seller clarifies, “It is not an AUCTION!”
Eyeguy continues, “$3!” (Not 3 factorial. Grow up.)
The seller sees that there are now 3 copies of Jim’s hair. “Holy huacamol e, kid. My stock, is INCREASING!”
Eyeguy cheers, “YIPEE! YAHOO!”
This panel is duplicated six more times, to fit within a single, larger panel.
It is then duplicated again, overlapped on itself, creating a visual mess. He is cheering, though! This is excellent.

A four-panel comic.
Instructions are presented.
1. Insert Coin.
Flick puts a coin in the mouth of Cabbage, her robot.
2. Crank.
She proceeds to crank Cabbage's tail, as something happens inside its head.
She holds the result in her hand and covers her face, in an aura of despair.
Cabbage seems to smile.
Where the fourth panel would be, instead is the result of this process.
It is an elongated piece of metal with a horrible face imprinted on it. Green sparkles surround this disgrace.

A two-panel comic.
The Spick-n-Span duo (two robots, one has cat ears, and the other has dog ears) are at home.
The cat-eared one reads the newspaper, upset, lamenting, "Things were nicer when I was a kid..."
The dog-eared one looks back from cleaning a window, with a sympathetic expression.
The second panel seems to be a flashback, in sepia tone.
A little cat is playing with a doll and toy car, completely oblivious to the screams of agony, pleads for help, and the burning landscape that is just outside.

Someone asked why people dislike Professor Chops from the Retro Studios Donkey Kong Country games, and this was my response:

Real answer tho: people just find him boring and unnecessary. His position as the checkpoint character could've easily been Candy Kong. Bro doesn't even have a name until Tropical Freeze. He kinda ugly
Those aren't my opinions tho. He's my GOAT"

"I like him because I view him as a mascot to Retro Studios' Donkey Kong. His existence is just funny to me, not really fitting in with the DK cast or their setting, sitting in this weird neither region of being relevant and irrelevant. He's representative of the odd energy of the Retro Studio titles, this Dreamworks-ass design with barely any background information."

"And because he's borderline a nothing character, it compelled me to think of this ridiculous theory that he's actually the true antagonist of the RS Country games. That somehow he was responsible for erupting the volcano in Returns, responsible for giving the Snowmads coordinates to DK Island.
I like to think that his role as a checkpoint character is secretly him doing research on the Kongs that so that one day he could take over the island for himself using a combination of robotics(which he may be in cahoots with Colonel Pluck, another out-of-place animal character that also happens to be based on something you may see in a barn and has a similar naming scheme) and bio-organisms(It's possible that Super Kong is a creation of Chops using data and DNA from DK).
And now a part of me actually wants to see that happens - Donkey Kong Country: Pork N Bananas, the third and final installment in the RS Country Trilogy. It turns out, there is a central antagonist, and we just didn't know better. I look at this piece of concept art from Tropical Freeze, depicting a town environment with a bunch of Chops populating the area, and it just makes my imagination run wild"

Thinking about a Mario platformer for GBA again - here's a couple custom sprites based around that concept. (sprites above for comparison)

Sprite sheet consisting of different Marios. Above are Mario's sprites from Super Mario Advance, Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World, and Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3.
Below are my custom sprites, which aim to be more modern. They have a psuedo-3D style to match official renders.

Getting mad at a game for having you wait several minutes as a gag is kind of funny to me. I see some treat that like it's grueling, abhorrent game design that severely hurts replayability, and it's like... Just wait, lol. You can do other things while that happens, that's part of the joke.
