The only time I ever submitted a comic to The New Yorker was when Hugh Hefner died. It was rejected.

This is a great profile on the late Michiyo Yasuda. One of the most influential color designers in animation history. She led the incredible color design for My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies SIMULTANEOUSLY!
She was Hayao Miyazaki's "right-hand" collaborator from the '70s onward. Her name was Michiyo Yasuda -- the best color designer in animation. Yasuda's eye for color gave Ghibli's work a totally different look. We explore her methods: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-artist...
I just checked Threads, since I haven’t been there in a while and saw that people were yelling “fake” at a guy who posted a clip from a documentary showing a CGI fight between a mastodon and a terror bird (titanus), and now I’m really tired.
Heeey, if you subscribe to beacon.tv you can see Tavisha and I on episode 36 of Weirdkids! youtube.com/shorts/ra4P3...
Hitherto a Lion is an ethereal space opera about a biomechanical lion who eats demons at the end of the universe. It was published 15 years ago, and it’s still my favorite thing I’ve written. tavicat.com/hitherto-book-shop Signed editions: etsy.com/shop/RikkiSimons ISBN 978-0-692-69369-8
Hi! Tavisha had a hospital stay two weeks ago and now she has to do a number of $$ tests—so I made a bunch of new autograph prints! You can get them at etsy.com/shop/RikkiSi.... If prints aren’t your thing and you’d still like to help, we have a PayPal link here: www.tavicat.com/donate. Thanks!
I probably don’t actually care that much about Shark Week.
Had a nice dream. Dreamt that I could fly—that I stole a beautifully painted cabinet from a yard sale and then flew away with it over the green valleys and mountains of New Zealand. The cabinet was gone when I woke up, so that part sucked.

My flight was delayed over an hour today because a couple of people on the previous flight had barfed all over themselves and two rows of seats, and they had to call in a hazmat team to clean it all up before we were allowed on. Yaaaay!
I just saw a guy on Facebook complaining that I didn’t smile when I went to a convention in El Paso. I went to that convention 14 years ago. 14. Years.
Come see me at StocktonCon Summer, this Saturday, July 11th - Sunday, July 12th, at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, CA! More info/tickets: stocktoncon.com! Weeeehoooo!

I saw the craziest thing just now. My cat was staring at something by the door. It was a June bug on its back flailing around while a tiny spider was trying to drag it into the door crack. I put the June bug outside and closed the door, then the tiny spider ran out the crack after it!
This has been a scary week. Tavisha had a seizure due to low sodium and ended up intubated and sedated in ICU for two days. She returned to consciousness yesterday and they removed the breathing tube, but she is still in the hospital for the next few days. I’ve been alone and useless at home.
Finished reading the Silmarillion. I really loved it in the end, especially Beren and Lúthien. Lots of high fantasy lore mixed with epic sword and sorcery but maaann, those Númenóreans were real stinkers.
I would be unable to stop myself from exploring the Backrooms until I was chased down and eaten buy some kind of sad, multi-eyed version of dog suit GIR.
Hello! I will be at the Anaheim convention center for Fan Expo this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Please come and see me but do not make direct eye contact because I know that you are all basilisks and I don’t want to turn to stone. fanexpohq.com/fanexpoanahe...
This magazine was my everything in the 70s and 80s.

Millennial/GenZ animation fans (and animators!); by now you're sick to death of being told you've "GOT to watch!" this or that ancient Boomer cartoon - but take this example: Jay Ward's 'ROCKY & BULLWINKLE' *was* the real thing and applies NOW: They had no money, so the script+designs HAD to be good
Sucks that this 64 year old Rocky & Bullwinkle joke still hits now
