I play drums and write music for @thrice. I share music I dig on IG @rileybreck. I ramble about baseball and make up dumb names @productiveouts.
Spun the excellent new Lockstep LP on a run this morning. Really solid, gauzy, spacey, heavy, dreamy downtempo nü-gaze from Nashville. If you dig early Cloakroom, Downward, spacey Cave In, Nothing, et al you’ll be all about this. youtu.be/XFoAPQKzCSk

This NO PAIN NO PAIN record from last year is excellent. Post-rock from France that is super dynamic and melodic, and it does a masterful job of juxtaposing an uplifting push with a melancholic pull. Kinda reminds me of a heavier, more energetic This Will Destroy You. youtu.be/kWVJecq-_4Y?...

Spun the latest Midlife record, 3mm57, on a run this morning. Dug it quite a bit. Hypnotic, angular, Dischord Records-style stuff from France with tasty drumming. Kinda hit me in the FACS receptors. Definitely worth a spin if that’s your thing. youtu.be/XSKSLcXUoRs?...

live nation is actively killing publications that cover new artists while also promoting festivals that almost exclusively cater to nostalgia and legacy acts. these problems are not unrelated.
“Music publications BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine have been gutted by parent company Veeps... Nearly all the staff at each publication appear to have been laid off yesterday. Veeps, which is now owned by Live Nation, acquired the publications in 2024 or 2025”
Aside from the knock to the ever-dwindling music journalism ecosystem, I just think about what this all means for smaller and mid-tier bands. If you're not already huge, who is going to cover your album? Who is going to post about your tour? Who is going to…

This is horrible news. Thanks a bunch, Madden Bros & Live Nation.

It is so far beyond infuriating and depressing that a moment in history that could and should have brought literally everyone closer together just pushed (and continues to push) everyone further apart.

This new Frontierer track slays. Like 90s Meshuggah routed through a pedal labeled Thing Loudener™, with every knob turned up to 11. Heavy as hell. Super pissed. Extremely headbangable. youtu.be/epxwQCJHip0?...

Had a really great chat with Geoff at Sidearm Nation a while back about my obsession with baseball, my short-lived collegiate career, similarities between playing ball and making music, and a lot more. It’s out now, should you care to listen. sidearmnation.buzzsprout.com

Been hooked on the ridiculous [complimentary] new Loathe record. Fifty-five minutes of bonkers genre blending and production, big hooks, wild tones, and skull-flattening heaviness. Took a few spins for it to click, but it’s really got its claws in me now. youtu.be/fOdDeDh1R-E?...

There are few sounds more grating than a DI acoustic guitar, but kudos to Biebs for actually singing and not lip syncing like the rest of those performers.
Went to see Universal Soldier in the theater with a group of friends in ’92. We knew it was gonna suck on its own merits, but when the title screen popped up it looked like this. Kinda set the tone for the rest of the experience, which was so bad it was almost good?

A very important story about the sandwich many All-Stars eat whenever they’re playing at Citizens Bank Park. “When you come to Philly, you forget about nutrition,” Freddie Freeman said. “You eat the cheesesteaks in the visiting clubhouse.” www.nytimes.com/athletic/744...
Thought of this since this ladies final just had a million deuce points in the last 30 minutes.
The cool thing about tennis is that the chair umpire says “juice” and someone brings them something to drink.
Really looking forward to being selected in today's #MLBDraft. It's been 33 years without a call, but I have a feeling this is gonna be the year it finally happens.
While “standing around and waiting for someone else to do something” is an inherently American strategy, I don’t think it really works on the pitch.

i think the cybertruck is the first relatively commonplace thing that has not gotten any less funny, ugly and contemptible after seeing it enough times. almost any other dumb tacky thing eventually fades into the background. not this one
Digging this new truck violence record. Unhinged, sludgy, dynamic noise-rock/post-punk from Montreal that kinda reminds me of a more adventurous Chat Pile. It rips. tidal.com/album/510424...
