Should have voted for the other guy. Any other guy. Or maybe a demonstration. Some civil disobedience. No? Nothing? Nada? Ah, you’re “not interested in politics”?

*Still* haven’t used AI for anything but Google search results… I’m good.
Same with university leaders… 😪 They have all lost their mind
“When it comes to AI, business leaders will confidently demand that the skilled professionals who perform the business's core functions use AI, even if those professionals don't think it will help.” www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...
This should have gone without saying, but it obviously cannot... Too many people, highly educated and skilled to boot, are in denial that habitual A.I. use is anything but harmful in education, research, professional life. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/o...
Opinion | I’m Begging You: Never Write With A.I.
It’s bad for your brain and worse for democracy.

If real, this is the maximum degree of courage
"There is no one more cowardly, vile, and utterly pathetic than Putin." A resident of Vladivostok called on Russians to appeal to the Ukrainian government and to anyone "who can help free Russia from the despicable regime that has seized the country and held onto power for a quarter of a century."
New Substack featuring my recap of Australia's new AI standards: notesfromtheloop.substack.com/p/albos-ai-s... Australia is not often thought about in global AI dialogues, but the way we do things is worth paying attention to! #tech #philtech #philai #aiethics
There are lies, and then there are criminal lies.
RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>
Genuinely don't think we're hearing nearly enough about the effective youth/GenZ protest movements in middle and lower-middle income countries in the past couple of years foreignpolicy.com/2026/07/30/c...

The “I told you so” to climate change deniers will feel very bittersweet, with emphasis on the bitter
I remember when right wing media regularly used to play the clip of Al Gore saying "the planet has a fever" during his Congressional testimony in 2007 to make fun of him. But the planet has a fever, and it keeps getting worse
I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

“results from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument have renewed interest..Some theories suggest that extra dimensions could help explain..the nature of dark energy; the invisible influence of dark matter; and why gravity is so much weaker than the other fundamental forces” youtu.be/0D8f3uDkgh0
In case you ever feel bad about the state of the Left in your country, look to Hungary.
Hungary, Medián poll: TISZA-EPP: 68% (-5) Fidesz/KDNP-PfE: 23% (+2) MH-ESN: 7% (+3) MKKP→G/EFA: 1% (+1) DK-S&D: 0% (-1) +/- vs. 22-29 June 2026 Fieldwork: 22-24 July 2026 Sample size: 1000 ➤ europeelects.eu/hungary
We need to defeat the right-wing trope that "regulation" is always a bad thing
A small mark, with big power. For more than 30 years, the CE (Conformité Européenne) marking has allowed many products to be moved and marketed freely all around the EU, regardless of where it’s manufactured. 1/2🧵
John Cleese is going to ruin Monty Python for me... 😪
Just loving how John Cleese, now reduced to one of his own caricatures, rages about immigrants coming to the UK and failing to accept "our" culture, from his home in ... (checks notes) ... Nevis in the Caribbean.
I have known Le Porge since I was a child. Much of it is now ash. We were warned this would come. We kept burning fossil fuels anyway. Adapting to this is not a plan. Stopping the cause is.
If I were a 17 year old today, I would not do an exchange year at a U.S. high school. Neither would I go to college there. The U.S. has lost *a lot* of soft power, perhaps even their cultural hegemony. Much will depend on how post-Trump reconstruction is handled, but the damage may be permanent.

Laughter is God-like. The more we do it, the more we approximate them (within reason).
🚩 My 2010 PhD thesis is ‘70% AI’ I ran my 2010 PhD thesis through an AI detector. It flagged 70% as AI, then tried to sell me a ‘humanise’ fix. Either I am a time traveller, or these tools do not work. Link to my thesis in the comments to try yourself. #AIDetection #HigherEd 🧪 #AI
"This time, the moral panic isn’t coming from older generations—in fact, kids are turned off by the way AI is being pushed on them by adults and tech corporations. They’re also, Green says, 'acutely aware that whatever disruption happens, their generation is going to be bearing the brunt of it.'"
Some Kids Will Never Think AI Is Cool
“I think it should stand for ‘artificial idiot,’” one 9-year-old says. Here’s why kids of all ages are calling AI “disgusting” and “creepy.”

It's almost like the American people should not have elected Trump at all...
It's almost like Trump shouldn't have started the Iran war at all.
This isn't news, but it's still a shocking sign of what Elon Musk has done to the platform formerly know as Twitter 2 identical posts 2x as many followers on X as on Bsky 100x more engagement on Bsky than on X
You can only say to the Russians what you would have said to the Germans in 1945: “it’s what you voted for. When anti-Putin demonstrations fizzled out in 2012, where were you?” Hit them hard, Ukraine По-другому научить их нельзя
