kusama is a difficult figure to place in performance history, but terribly important to it. like ono and kawara she introduced the ideas of the japanese avant-garde(s) to those of nyc; though not of gutai she at times shared that group's interest in doing painting and performance at once. (1/10)

I've been sitting with Cleansed for 2 weeks now, reflecting on the cracks it forged in me and how/if they can/should be filled or repaired. Thank you to Stella Green for articulating how theatre is a mass "prising ourselves loose from the sovereignty of our own viewpoint" & surrendering to faith.
