We've updated our 'Vote Low Traffic' toolkit! If you / your group want to press parties/candidates in May's local elections to help cut people's motoring or taxi costs and reduce oil imports, by making other transport options easier/cheaper, visit ... www.lowtrafficfuture.org.uk/vote-low-traffic

Vote Low Traffic

Why Vote Low Traffic? The May 2026 local elections in England are a key opportunity to shape the future of transport in your local area. They take place at a time of global instability in oil prices,...

Looking forward to free @sfrost.bsky.social webinar this pm, about his @ippr.org research into the transport attitudes of different voter segments (different ages, political leanings, parts of the country etc) - and hence what #lowtraffic messages will land with whom! 6-7pm, registration link below.

The £-multi-billion Lower Thames Crossing is still going ahead, while the Leeds tram scheme gets postponed. Surely what's holding this country back isn't the bats, newts, nimbies and the legislation that supposedly allows them to block progress - it's @treasurydept.bsky.social's skewed £ priorities!

“One key dispute is over whether another planning or nature bill is required to change rules over protected species and measures to make it easier to build large infrastructure projects, but the changes may be made via secondary legislation.” FFS. 🤦‍♂️ www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Lovely 6-min video by @streetfilms.bsky.social, showing how great Low Traffic Neighbourhoods can be! Let's reclaim our streets - and let's also reclaim the term "Low Traffic"! It's hugely desirable for loads of reasons and, despite what some media voices want us to believe, it's hugely popular too.

This is LIVE! And everyone needs to see the benefits of Low Traffic Neighborhoods from London! There is so little good documentation and this needs to be spread far & wide! Thanks for giving it a watch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaRc...

What does a good Local Transport Plan look like? Examples and general principles, please!

Starmer wants to make it even harder for people to legally challenge environmentally destructive roads, airports etc tinyurl.com/3cdpszp2. If only he was as eager to stop fossil fuel companies from using 'corporate courts' to block *positive* action for nature and the climate eg tinyurl.com/4r4tdy38

Starmer asks Conservative peer to write planning bill to block judicial reviews

Exclusive: One option could be to leave treaty that allows legal claims against projects such as Heathrow expansion

A great legal win by @drandrewboswell, tireless campaigner against roads and CCS - i.e. the fantasy that we can carry on emitting carbon, then capture and store it all. This will doubtless blow a big hole in the Carbon Budget Delivery Plan that the Gvt *must* legally publish by the end of October.

🚨 Legal win 🚨 UK Govt forced to review its Industrial Strategy Our legal challenge exposed failure to assess environmental impacts of Carbon Capture & Storage - a dirty distraction, locking us into gas #ClimateJustice Press Release: scrapcc.org/PR-IS @dalevince.com @chrisgpackham.bsky.social

A crucial win for investment in #cycling & #walking... The last Gvt's funding cuts caused a glaring mismatch between the 2nd Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS2)'s "objectives" and the funding earmarked to achieve these. Let's hope there will now be no repeat in CWIS3, due later this year!

The @thecccuk.bsky.social's proposals make optimistic assumptions about how quickly we will switch to EVs. They also leave it for Gov't to tackle the rebound problem: cheaper driving (thanks to EVs) will mean more driving, unless other measures are taken to address this. But this bit is important...

Stephen Frost@sfrost.bsky.social · last yr.

As the CCC also note, the government “may wish to go further on modal shift for reasons beyond emissions reduction”. I’d suggest these reasons are many, important and central to a just transition for transport and the government's wider missions.

If you're in England, tell your MP that efficient & affordable public transport together with extensive cycling and walking infrastructure will save money to the NHS by cutting road accidents and improving our physical & mental health. It will also regenerate the local economy. This is Paris:

The Gvt is working on a National Transport Strategy and wants your ideas! We've made it easy to email your MP and/or respond. Please call for a #LowTrafficVision: more funding for walking, cycling, public transport etc, less dependence on cars, vans & lorries lowtrafficfuture.org.uk/low-traffic-...
