People's obsessing about Nolan's Odyssey shows that both supporters and detractors don't understand how adaptations (should) work, the rules of fictional world-building, and the difference between fantasy and Homeric myth. Glad at least some people are reading Homer.

Andy Burnham to make it harder for people to claim benefits, vows to ‘get serious’ about cutting welfare bill. Silence on corporate welfare. 37.8% of Universal Credit claimants are in work. Due to hikes in retirement age, many seniors can't work, claim benefits. Women will be hardest hit.

If you go around the south Wales valleys you can see the remnants of the mines, including closed off areas with small chimneys for the underground gas. The fire at Blaenavon seems to have reached underground. It’s horrific.

Comments on social media show an unbelievable level of imbecility. People can’t go past the notion of direct cause of fires (usually criminal or negligent action) and the climate conditions making fires worse. Maybe we deserve extinction. theconversation.com/how-do-scien...

Amazon workers on federal aid nearly tripled between 2020 and 2025. During that time, Jeff Bezos saw his net worth jump by $139B as Amazon profits hit record highs. No corporation as profitable as Amazon should be paying its workers so little they must rely on food stamps and Medicaid to survive.
