My quote of the day Dawn showed faintly in the east. Among the ruins, one wall stood alone. Within the wall, a last voice said, over and over again and again, even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped rubble and steam: Today is August 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is... Ray Bradbury

Vernor Vinge (Rainbows End) wins this round of Dystopia Bingo, although with the twist that they shred the books before scanning. And it's only the 2nd most awful tech news this year (after Pokemon Go data being used to train military drones).

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

Reviewer invitation season is coming thick and fast, and I'm learning about heretofore unknown journals like Quality and Quantity and Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict (with its bloodcurdling list of expertise keywords, e.g. anarchism, assassination, genocide)
