The underlying study has no control group and only enrolls people with poorly controlled asthma. It's just pre/post comparison of asthma symptoms. Results are entirely consistent with reversion to the mean. Or seasonal change, for that matter. Come on people, we can do better!

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

I do enjoy adding a bit of poetry to my Concur expense reports--especially when I am subjected to the indignity of filing a full report (date, expense type, receipts, everything) for a charge that was reversed and nets to $0.00

There has been much anger--and I share it--about the 3 (or 4 depending on how you count) dissenting votes in the birthright citizenship case. But let's also take some time to sit with the controlling opinion by CJ Roberts. It's… quite good? (Thread, ending with a remark about an unsung hero.)

I have been glancing at the news all day and remain uncertain about the basic factual question of whether or not, during the next two weeks, tankers transiting the Straight of Hormuz need to pay a fee to Iran.

“House rejects” would make you think, you know, that the House voted on the proposal and it was defeated. But no. If it went to the floor, it would probably get 300 votes. This just seems to mean like 5 guys on the Rules Committee won’t bring it for a vote.

Kid’s school is preemptively cancelled tomorrow due to weather. I expect this cancellation to egregiously fail my “if the nearest Mattress Firm is open, school should be open” test.

Really surprised and disappointed at how few of my students showed up for my optional Zoom makeup class that happened today, a well-being day. It could have been a three part crescendo from UNC / Duke game Superbowl Logarithmic models with Professor Ryan

The Donut Rule for inclement weather school closures: If the donut store nearest to the school is open, then the school should be open. (Public schools in my area are closed for the third day running.)
