It’s not just selfish -it’s a complete breach of the Budapest Memorandum in 1994 when the US and others encouraged Ukraine to give up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for these countries guaranteeing Ukraine’s borders. The US is duty-bound to assist in Ukraine’s defence or its promises mean nothing.
