A failed human expansion out of Africa 100,000 years ago
Early modern humans expanded out of Africa multiple times before 70,000 years ago, yet none of these populations are ancestral to living non-Africans. What caused these dispersals to fail? Here we inv...

Great collection of articles on Arabia! Congratulations to authors 🎉
This collection dedicated to human-environment interaction in Ancient Arabia is nearly completed :) It’s one of the results of the UmWeltWandel project in Oman 🇴🇲 and of an amazing meeting hosted in Tübingen. openquaternary.com/collections/...
ARDUQ 5A expedition is in full swing. Our fieldwork in Nejd plateau in southern Oman is focused on collecting samples for paleoenvironmental, micro-morphological, geochemical and OSL dating analyses from the excavated stratified Palaeolithic sites. @czechacademy.bsky.social @icarehb.bsky.social

Great talk @armandofalcucci.bsky.social! Impressive depth of data analysis, and I really appreciated the open science approach. Finally, robust evidence that the Ahmarian and Protoaurignacian aren’t directly linked #Paleolithic #lithics 🏺🦣🧪

Great fun at #ESHE2025 presenting on how handaxe shape can inform discussions of African demography in the Early and Middle Pleistocene! While we have very few fossils or genetic data for this period, handaxe shape may carry a signal that can help to constrain biogeographic models - more to come!
This non #FlintFriday and #FieldworkFriday, I would like to share this mint-fresh Quartzite handaxe from SE India, likely dating back to Middle Pleistocene. Yes, it hurts to see that broken tip! Still, one of my best find. I am field-sick, can't wait to go back. #Acheulean #India #HumanOrigins
Congrats Gabriele!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting my poster on large carnivore 🐆 exploitation in Lebanon at #ESHE2025. Such a great venue for it, with so many interesting posters around! I also got the chance to chat with lots of amazing people! #Paleolithic #zooarcheology 🏺🦣🧪

Very sad news today. Anthony E. Marks has passed away. He conducted pioneering prehistoric research in the Nile Valley, the southern Levant and Arabia, producing seminal works on the Palaeolithic. In 2023, aged 85, he still joined the @arduq.bsky.social excavations in Dhofar, Oman. Rest in peace.
The 'bone midden' surprised with its age, megalithic features and the number of individuals. It is as impressive as the neighbouring rock art sites, triliths and shell midden. The Nafun cultural landscape comprises 214 archaeological sites! @arduq.bsky.social
