Retired OECD staff member. I post on trade, environment, energy (especially fossil fuel subsidies). Supporting QUNO's work on identifying & reducing subsidies to #plastics. Commenting in my personal capacity. Once told by Mel Brooks: "You have no taste!"
Good, 6'45", AI-enhanced documentary on the scourge of plastic pollution. However, I couldn't help but notice in the ending scenes all the people wearing reflecting vests made from artificial fibres, gloves that I assume are neoprene, and the plastic recycling bins. Synthetics are hard to avoid!

Crude oil inventories held at Cushing, Oklahoma, fell below 20 million barrels. At the same time, the U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate spot price rose above the international benchmark Brent spot price indicating inventory levels were near tank-bottom levels and extreme tightness in the market

Trump Says He May Drop Blanche’s Nomination, For Now-- Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general is on hold after Republicans, lacking the necessary support, postponed a critical committee vote.

Compare this French tuition rate with Indiana University’s. The annual tuition rate for this coming school year is currently $12,143/year. That’s for Hoosier residents only. That’s just for the Bachelor’s degree. That’s FOUR TIMES HIGHER than what France makes foreign/non-EU students pay. Why?!
We are just beginning the exploring-college journey here, but I just want to point out that even as a non EU citizen you can get a four year degree in France for $3300 a year. We could have this, if we had a government that gave a shit about us.
Thread with US examples, but probably with wider relevance. "It's really, genuinely difficult to put yourself in the headspace of the average disconnected, not-paying-attention voter if you know things. " Indeed. I'd like to think of myself as not living in an echo chamber, as I have /
A reminder that people who know anything about politics -- what the parties are, what they stand for, their record, who they've elected, how government works -- are a freakish minority. Most people know *nothing at all* past the vague mythologies that sift down through pop culture.
This is such a great visualization of the carbon cycle and of how humanity has completely altered it within a geological instant. Visualization by @rarohde.bsky.social. 1/

Agricultural exceptionalism is rooted in racism and white supremacy, and the reason why this bipartisan baloney still dominates the narrative. "Family farms" can be owned by one individual or a (family owned) corporation. Landowning farmers benefit from subsidies that are capitalized in land values.
Here's former conservative Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson propagating the lie that taxing billionaires will hurt family farmers. He's now with something called Saving America's Family Enterprises, a shadowy group that I guarantee you is funded by billionaires. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Cute video. But I wish this obsession with big plush animals would end. They are all, or almost all, made using synthetic fibres, shedding microplastics as they are handled and age. And their production collectively helps perpetuate growth in the petrochemical industry.

Outrageous. In my view, the sound of freedom will only be audible when we hear the door bolt engaging as Hegseth and the Acting Secretary of the Navy, as well perhaps as the pilot who flew over the beach, are thrown into the brig. 😤🤬😖
