Ross-on-Wye Cider & Perry
@rosscider.bsky.social
Orchard-based cidery in Herefordshire UK, producing wild fermented cider and perry from our own orchards, and sold 5 minutes away in our pub, the Yew Tree Inn.
It’s my new favourite drinking hole - perry and cider from all sorts of places and it’s just brilliant- Pat Lock is the very genial owner and can mix up a perfect combo of whatever taste palette you want. Heartily recommend - Thu to Sat.
Mitcheldean’s Gem: The Independent Republic of Jolter. Jack ponders the significance of CAMRA’s Good Cider Guide, and the rise of cider culture through establishments like the Independent Republic of Jolter that promote local makers.
Best thing about harvest season is that it is also baking season. A summer of being too hot to use the oven is now over! Huzzah!
A reminder that Delo previously pled guilty in the US to violating money laundering protections and agreed to pay a $10 million fine for "willfully” breaking the law with his BitMex platform, which was described as "in effect a money laundering platform.” This is who owns Farage now
Thorn pears, from two different orchards. An iconic early season perry pear, probably the second most common variety after Blakeney Red. Good acidity with often light tannins too. Healthy, semi-vigorous trees. Heartily endorse.
Since @rosscider.bsky.social Autumn is absolutely delicious, a very me cider and each sip really does evoke the season
Harvest has begun. We have moved almost everything on the farm in the last two weeks to create a festival and then a pressing space. It's a superhuman effort that requires long hours and determination. But yesterday we put the first pears through the press and already I am filled now with excitement
Four days to go to RossFest 2026. Another special volunteer dinner. Fourth crumble of the season. Bramley and mistakenly picked up Somerset Redstreaks. They fit in well though. Plus earlier: it was a bit wet.
Fruit is epic. It's nearly harvest. Gonna be a doozy
When I took over the running of Cider Review two-and-a-half years ago, one of my goals (and act of self preservation) was to try increase the number of voices, especially geographically, on the site. So I’m very happy to welcome Will to our group of contributors, and it’s a great piece!
New contributor Will McMahon explores the historical context of apple cultivation and the practice of foraging for making cider in New York, tasting through eight examples made using foraged apples. By @willmcmahon36.bsky.social

We are pleased to announce that for the 3rd consecutive year, the winner of the @camraofficial.bsky.social West Cheshire Branch Cider Pub of the Year for 2026 is @thatbeerplace.co.uk in Chester. Congratulations to Dale, Lisa and all their staff on yet another well deserved win.
Completely spineless for the UK govt to magic up 2.5bn from nowhere on the inflationary scam that is AI when extracting the absolute maximum in day to day taxes from hospitality and other small businesses.
A little Sunday drink. Spring Cider, a Collab between @rosscider.bsky.social and @thatbeerplace.co.uk and it's light, zesty, and thoroughly refreshing! #bskybeer
Fascinating to compare the 1 year growth of these two different top worked trees. The first image shows Sandford Jersey and the second Kimbolton (I think, but I was walking Freya). Where one has exclusively upright growth, the bushier habit of the Sandford is quite exciting and unusual!
In the Yew Tree Peterstow drinking a 2025 Foxwhelp. Kegged as a pét nat it's a beautiful cider. Vibrant and juicy, with beautiful floral aromas, strawberry notes and of course that refreshing, intense acidity. Find it at: Fell NQ, MCR The Old Shoe, Sheffield Hereford Beer House
It's pretty wet out there. Our first Ciderkin will debut at the Yew Tree, Peterstow, later this month!
My song of 2026 is "Solar System" from the Travelling Songs Tonie. It's sung beautifully. It's also track 10 and I can't find it anywhere else online so getting to listen to it relies on my 19 month old daughter not replacing the player with her Peppa Pig audio story and resetting the progress.
🍎 Friday vibes @ B33R@33 🍏 Our cider-only fridge is fully stocked with fun bottles. We also have Vumpy, Somerset Redstreak, Iford ABC, Pulp Piña Colada & Yarlington Mill 🍻 🎶 Sun 4–6pm: Ste Cat live – amazing singer/guitarist & covers! #CiderTime #FridayFeels #LiveMusic

If you drink one Ross-on-Wye this month it should be this 2022 vintage Bulmers Norman SV. It is, to me, a completely joyous cider. When the days are dark and wet, this cider is defiantly, gloriously fruity. In one glass, it is what bittersweet cider is meant to be!
