Windfall season has well and truly started. The 'Irish Peach' apple tree at work had dropped a few dozen fruits whilst I was away last week. Mostly damaged / codling moth infested, alas, but a good few were worth washing and scoffing 😋
If Google Lens isn't hallucinating, then I spotted an Eilema griseola, rather delightfully a.k.a. 'Dingy Footman', sheltering under an apple leaf the other day 🙂
A handful of Victoria plums picked last week. The crop is always very sparse - blink and you'll miss it. Delicious, though.
Had to deal with a broken branch or three at work yesterday. Caused by the weight of the apples on the limb, which sadly I didn't have the chance to thin out properly last month 😔

We’re at the old orchard to have a look what’s going on. This White Transparent is a regular cropper, and the earliest apple we have, but we never use it. Good for making Apfelmus, or eating fresh, but already going mealy. Not that Anu cares! Such a striking, bright colour.

Some interesting Cidery history from our Glocs long weekender. The Workman Press is in Winchcombe, a nice double cheese example. This noticeboard is on the Stroudwater Navigation, and mentions a cider producer I don’t think I’ve heard of before. #Cider

Most of our wild blackberries, though very early, are poor this year, no doubt due to drought. However, cutting back a boundary for access, I found this, not only healthy and prolifically fruiting, but tastes almost like a raspberry. Cuttings will be taken!
