By night, she is La Última, the last bone-painter who turns skeletons into pieces of art, ready to be sent into the afterlife–La Eternidad. By day, she is Madalina Carvajal, heiress to a legacy she doesn’t want- no money, and no future. All she wants is to save her ailing sister, Marianela, but when her parents betroth her to crown prince Ceferino de Argüello, all seems lost.

When the King offers La Última a life-changing sum to paint the late queen’s bones, she takes on the task, unwilling to give up her livelihood, her connection to her bone-painter grandmother. When her sister succumbs to her illness, all seems lost.

Ceferino may be the heir to the throne and have the world at his fingertips, but losing his mother has left him hollowed. He couldn’t care less about his bride-to-be; he only wants to see his mother again. When he finds a spell to speak to the dead, he jumps at the chance… but the spell goes awry, and Madalina and Ceferino fall into La Eternidad.

Together, they must find a lost pair of sentient bones and work together to gather Saint-blessed artifacts to revive Marianela and achieve their respective goals. Bickering all the way and trying not to acknowledge their growing feelings for each other, the artist and prince must race through the afterlife to find the missing bone before the full moon, or else their souls will be stuck in La Eternidad forever.

Madalina whipped her head around and scampered down the rocks, making a beeline for him. Ceferino stared up at her, watching her carefully bend down next to his chest. Her eyes twinkled with concern, and the pinkish moonlight backlit her dark, mahogany hair. She looked like an angel.
“Oh, thank the Saints,” she huffed, short of breath. “I was getting worried.”
“I think you broke my wrist,” he moaned. “And possibly my ribcage.”
“You fell on top of me,” grumbled Madalina, incredulous. Had her eyes always been so beautiful?
“The first time,” he corrected, with a sigh. His right leg had begun to throb, too. “This time, you fell on me and probably broke several of my precious, precious bones. Possibly forever. Who will nurse me back to health?”
“Oh, please.” Madalina rolled her eyes. “Nurse you back to health? You seem just fine to me, only a bit scuffed up.”
“Again, you must have broken one of my bones. I am not just fine,” he lamented. “In fact, I might die.”
