“The album took almost seven years to write. We had three songs in the bag, but we didn’t know what was going to happen with them. We finally decided we couldn’t let this stuff die on the vine.” Lovely speaking with Vexine all about their new album in my latest @styleweekly.com piece

“If we don’t have equal access to music, we risk not hearing from so many voices in the music world. Just think about how many people we’ve never gotten to hear from because they didn’t have access to music education.“ My latest for Style Weekly.

I always feel a little sad this time of year and this year especially has been brutal, but tonight I’m also reminded of the people that helped me through. A text, a coffee, a high five, a like or reply to a post… none of it goes unnoticed. Thanks for making my life a little brighter. Happy holidays.
Not feeling particularly festive this season so here’s a playlist of sad holiday songs.

Another year older. It was a good day. Thank you for the nice birthday messages.
Today marks the 3 year anniversary of my book RVA playlist and the 1 year anniversary of the Deluxe Edition. Thank you to everyone who has bought a copy, told me they liked it, shared it with friends, and harassed me about when another book is coming out. It meant the world to me.
Local hip-hop is so under appreciated. Love what these guys are doing.
The Virginia Hip-Hop Foundation aims to celebrate and preserve the rich hip-hop culture of Virginia.
Bill was such a force for the music community. I hosted “Global A Go-Go” for him once and was terrified because I knew nothing about world music. He told me that world music was just “local music from someplace else.” I did a world music tour on my show and it’s probably one of my favorites ever.
WRIR co-founder and “Global A Go-Go” host remembered for helping "decolonize" Richmond's ears.
@rvaplaylist.bsky.social and I won horror trivia tonight! I like being rewarded for leaving the house!
So caught up with horror film fests, I forgot to share my latest Style Weekly interview with Mexi-Tonk band Ramona and the Holy Smokes.

Indie rockers Dead Billionaires return with a new EP, “More!” fighting against the injustices facing the world.
Excited to be at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival this weekend. Come hang with me on Saturday for @certifiedforgot.bsky.social as they interview special guest Tina Romero.
For the past few years, the team at Brooklyn Horror have kept a slot in their schedule for @certifiedforgot.bsky.social — even as they’ve grown. It would mean a lot if you could help us spread the word and fill the house next weekend.

I’m a firm believer in horror movies being very helpful in dealing with mental health struggles. I talked with advocacy and support group Victims and Villains about using pop culture and horror to address mental health. (And their film festival this weekend)
Victims and Villains is dedicated to deconstructing the stigma surrounding mental health through pop culture and horror.
I pulled together a list of (almost) all of the local music coming out this fall!
