Sometimes I wonder about the impact of politicians and media treating Ardern with such misogynistic contempt for years on end and it’s pretty frightening to consider that all that energy didn’t die when Ardern left, and is now funneled into policy, and misogyny/ racism is normalised (and rewarded).

And in both cases Goldsmith is basically saying "we don't care what the law says, we're gonna do it anyway". Which is a weird position for a Minister of Justice to take, and calls the entire basis of the NZ state into question. The state is made by law. If it ignores it, it dies.
