I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on
Don't have confirmation from all affected departments, but... #Philosophy at #Exeter has avoided compulsory redundancies, and so have the other disciplines I've heard from so far. They've wrecked our summer, and bullied beloved colleagues into "voluntary" redundancy. But we're still here.

I don't think that treating the Church Fathers with uncritical wonder actually loves the Church Fathers as they deserve. They were serious men asking serious questions. We can demand things of them. We can ask what doesn't work. It is a form of respect to do so.
My wife’s doing an MA right now and sometimes she gets assigned readings that… let’s just say I’ve vocally obsessed over for years. She’ll send me pics of them and it takes me all of my very limited self control to not just march into our library and start lecturing and pulling books off the wall.
I know it’s Vance and he’s the worst, but all the dunking on his religious affect is very funny to me because there’s really good sociological evidence that you basically never really leave the religious affect you start with, even if you convert/deconvert to something extremely different.
