this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta). a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this): 1/?

Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

Alpha-gal syndrome is an IgE-mediated delayed hypersensitivity to galactose-α-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal), a carbohydrate found in mammalian meat but absent from human tissue. The condition is initiated by exposure to alpha-gal through tick bites. Learn more: https://nej.md/4wIygTh

I paid the Dumb Parent Tax yesterday: We stopped at a roadside dinosaur at 5yo's request. Then, we wandered into the gift shop, which was actually a giant toy store. $35 later, everyone was happy with their new set of vehicles or relieved to be leaving not having spent more.

Last night, I drove my 5yo around at bedtime so he could fall asleep or at least get sleepy. I drove a while and turned around at a meadow. We both saw the last bits of light on the clouds. "What a beautiful view," he said. We also saw fireflies. It was a really sweet moment.
