Geographer. Mostly harmless. Mountains > oceans. Permafrost is cool. Rivers and lakes are pretty nice too.

When Wilfred Grenfell came to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1892, he had one goal. Improve the lives of the people living there. To this day, he is celebrated there for his selfless dedication. This is his story. 📸 Walter Stoneman 🧵 1/10

It’s 11 days until the referendum - do you know where your special ballot is? 😉 If it’s not in the mail yet, Canada Post suggests getting it in by 5 PM tomorrow. And if you haven’t received it yet, you can vote in the advanced polls next week. Watch to learn more. Don’t miss your chance! #abpoli

I filled in my mail in #Alberta referendumb ballots today. I was surprised just how angry it made me to see that question about separating from the rest of my country on an actual real ballot. Fuck you Danielle Smith. Fuck off forever the whole rest of the #UCP and all the seppos and their lies.

I've seen several posts by people saying things "oh I didn't have plague on my bingo card" Seriously, get it together, put all the worst things on your bingo card - locusts, hurricanes, miseries that nobody has even imagined Haven't you learned

The UCP's primary objective of governing is not to solve actual problems but to create issues, real or imagined, that keep Albertans worried & in the dark. They do this to reinforce excuses to blame others b/c: -it's easier -better clickbait than solving real problems &, -avoids #UCP accountability

There appear to be two big takeaways from this... 1) The UCP inherited a program that the NDP put into place that allowed for the limitation of temporary workers, they extended it past its two year pilot and it worked for them. They kept it going until 2022. /8

Congratulations to #quartz. I have learned much from the secrets locked within your lattice. And I will probably suffer from lifelong nightmares that involve dissolving you with HF.

Congratulations to our Mineral Cup 2026 Champion Quartz! For #MinCup26, we collectively chose a nostalgic beauty of resilience as persistence as our champion. Please celebrate #Quartz, a friend to humans since time immemorial! www.mineralcup.org/about/2026-q...

A single quartz point, deep violet in its core and entirely clear around the outside, with ghostly traces of the crystal's former shape inside, as well as a few tiny bubbles.

The University of Calgary launched its new Electricity Centre this morning. It will be a place where researchers, policymakers & the public can intersect on the increasingly important issues surrounding our power grid, generation, distribution & emissions. Expect to hear more soon!

University of Calgary Electricity Centre directors Blake Shaffer and Sara Hastings-Simon speak at the centre's launch event.

Even if this connection didn't exist (Wilson happily agrees it does), this story shows there is a dark industry that exists to push propaganda & profit from division. There are many such grifters manipulating parts of our society for their own profit but this one is big & our very own #Alberta.

This story, about the links between the top Alberta independence social media account and a well known separatist leader that I did with @jeffyates.bsky.social, has been pretty well read today. There have also been some common questions, so I'm going to add my 2 cents! www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

It's now a tradition for me to post my trip home after late night budget hearings. Tonight, the bus, which makes my family's life easier and more affordable. We're not alone. Our budget only succeeds by understanding every family, every person, and every challenge is different. More to come.

Really more of a scheme than a plot but otherwise this is what Danielle Smith and the UCP want, a perpetual excuse to "fight" & gripe about Ottawa instead of governing the province to fix real problems. Basically, an excuse to distract from the facts of all the UCP money wasting scandals & failure.

Danielle Smith’s referendum is an evil plot to keep the separatist fire burning. On referendum day: Vote Option 1 on Question 10. Vote NO on Questions 1–9. It’s the only way to save Canada.  To find referendum information and get involved with the campaign, visit savecanada.albertandp.ca.

It makes me angry that an Alberta government that ran a years long “Alberta is calling” campaign straight up lies in commercials and blames the Federal government for “unsustainable” immigration. We’re f’ing paying for this bullshit.

See here! We're voting for #quartz in today's #MinCup26 quartz-erfinals. Gaze at this quartz (and bronze, marble, frit and obsidian) @metmuseum.org find from ancient Greece ... www.metmuseum.org/art/collecti...

#MinCup26 Quarterfinal 2 Both of today's minerals can be found in hydrothermal vein deposits as cobalt arsenide #Skutterudite is against classic silicate #Quartz for a spot in the semi-finals. Vote: www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-re... Results: www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-re...

I often think about the speed camera chopping vigilante who returned to the scene of their crime on Parkside Drive multiple times but Toronto police didn’t catch them & it led to Doug Ford banning speed cameras for 16 million people & now speeding is at epidemic levels & people will die.
