Think it might've been important context for NFL Network to tell its audience what the protests were regarding, but alas.

The Steelers QB room dressing like the Peaky Blinders for a game in *checks notes* France is hilarious

Batshit levels of insane ad during halftime of Indiana-Michigan on Fox. The premise was that liberals are the new racists and the narrator, who is white, was afraid to show their face???

Sean Keeley @seankeeley.bsky.social · 3w ago

Documents obtained by Awful Announcing through public records requests, along with an interview with Randy Levine, a vice chair of President Trump’s college sports committee, provide a closer look at those relationships.

Levine confirmed that ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro and Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks personally told him they were concerned about protecting their existing television contracts. Emails also place Pitaro on the invitation list for an August meeting organized through Cody Campbell’s office, the primary backer of Saving College Sports (SCS).

Meanwhile, SCS has run advertisements promoting the legislation during college football games, including on ESPN, featuring on-air talent such as Nick Saban. Sen. Ted Cruz’s Sept. 12 appearance on College GameDay coincided with the most games carrying SCS ads among the four Saturdays Awful Announcing examined.

Netflix’s Tom Pelissero met with Bill Simmons the same day he was let go by ESPN

By the time Tom Pelissero learned he no longer had a job, his suitcase was already thirty feet in the air, tucked into the cargo hold of a plane bound for Los Angeles. He was sitting in the Sky Club at the Minneapolis airport, a few hours from guest-hosting a week of The Rich Eisen…

Jemele Hill on Colin Kaepernick, 10 years later

Ten years ago, Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem in peaceful protest of Black oppression and police brutality in America. Kaepernick, then the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, had refused to stand for the national anthem earlier that offseason. But nobody really noticed until Aug. 26, 2016, when he didn’t stand for the…

Peanut butter, jelly, and Keith Hernandez: The secret formula behind SNY’s Mets broadcast

Being a New York Mets fan isn’t for the faint of heart. Trust me, I would know. I’m not the only Mets fan on staff at Awful Announcing, but I am the most vocal. And since I watch somewhere between 1-162, that would technically make me one of the most qualified to write about the…

Hey. @awfulannouncing.bsky.social is hiring. We're looking for a P/T Nights/Weekends Editor. 15/20 hours/week, West Coast hours, weekend availability a must. Opportunity to turn it into an F/T gig for the right person. Feel free to DM me with any questions. www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/44...

Comeback Media is looking for a PT Nights/Weekends Editor to join the editorial team for Awful Announcing, the leader in daily sports media news, analysis, and commentary.

The ideal candidate is someone with editor-level experience and strong knowledge of the sports media industry. If you obsessively follow the latest NFL media rights news and can passionately break down your ideal NBA announcing booth, you’re the kind of candidate we’re looking for. There’s a difference between loving sports and understanding sports media; recognizing that distinction is important for this role. We’re also looking for someone who understands that stories about sports-broadcasting fragmentation and what Erin Andrews said on her podcast both have value and an audience, and who knows how to position them.

Candidates who will thrive in this role are strong communicators and effective collaborators. Someone who is a team player with a strong editorial voice. As you’ll be working with a small but passionate team of editors and writers covering breaking news, adaptability and a willingness to do the little things are key. The position calls for someone who can balance in-depth research, truthful storytelling, content strategy, and speed. A desire to learn and curiosity to find answers that aren’t easily available are necessities.

We’re looking for someone who is available 15-20 hours/week, can work West Coast hours, and has evening and weekend availability.

Requirements
Editor-level experience, preferably around sports or media verticals.
Extensive writing proficiency in sports, media, or sports media.
Excellent grammatical and editing skills.
General knowledge of sports media and sports business industries.
Interest and enthusiasm in social media, video, and other promotional tools.
Evening and weekend availability.
Familiarity with WordPress.
Willingness to work remotely.

Pay range is $2,000- $3,000/month. Opportunity to become a full-time role for the right candidate.

How New York Soccer Journal rose from the ashes of Hudson River Blue

For as long as Hudson River Blue existed, the site did something that no outlet in the Tri-State Area with a larger staff and bigger budget ever quite managed to pull off: it showed up. Every week, for 13 years, through five executive editors, two platform structures, and a divorce from SB Nation, someone at…

10 years ago, Tom Hallion’s ass was in the jackpot

May 28, 2016, was not a great day for large, beloved figures being taken out before their time. Virginia has to spend years getting dragged through courts and referendums over maps while TN can just kneecap Memphis politically because they feel like it. One side gets buried in process and the other gets to openly game the system in broad daylight.

On my umpteenth rewatch of Seinfeld, and you can you obviously tell when Larry David left the show because George just becomes a caricature of himself. Stills signs of prime Costanza, but it’s noticeably not the same.

I wrote about Dianna Russini, the constant pressure female reporters face to prove they aren't sleeping with sources (plus the pressure we do get from sources to get involved with them), and why all of this is so uncomfortable to talk about. Gift link:

I don’t remember the first time someone hit on me as a reporter. I believe this is because my brain has come to treat these events as unremarkable. For any woman in journalism, they pile up over the y...

We got an interesting tip that former ESPN/The Undefeated NBA writer Chris Palmer passed away in October of last year. I’m not finding much — if anything — in terms of media coverage, besides the attached obituary. Genuinely had no idea, and I'm curious if anyone knows more?
