You vs the feed she told you not to worry about
Excuse us, can we interest you in some healthy algorithms?
This is what we've been working on over the last few weeks. It's our own little contribution to the atmosphere: "zero friction" PDS hosting. There are still lots of great features in the pipeline, but we wanted to get started early and share our progress openly with you.
We needed PDS infrastructure for @eny.social, so we built managed, "one-click" hosting. Now you can use it too. AT Protocol account management still lives in a terminal. Our first post on getting it into a browser and the migration hiccup that kicked it off: eny.space/blog/putting...

Had a funny conversation with my mail delivery guy: You've got mail from, uh, Boris. Whoa! He wants money from you. That'll be €16. What? Just kidding, it's just customs. @bmann.ca
I’ve tried to stay calm these past few days but reality is I’m pissed as hell. Pissed at @ec.europa.eu and @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu acting like influencers for a closed platform. Be on W, be on Bluesky, be on mu, but promote a gated platform as your solution to the social media mess we’re in?
the painful thing about it is that with maybe a week of work, @bsky.app has the power to make account migration ACTUALLY ACCESSIBLE AND USABLE to non-technical users. it almost is — but these three or four papercuts each ruin the flow
everyone has those bsky group chats with friends where there's always one person missing from the group.
Kept thinking about the Cal.com thing. The security argument is the small story. Maintainer burnout + AI generated PR floods + faster-than-human vuln scans, all pressing on the same 30-year dev stack, is the bigger one. Something made it #OutOfMyNotetakingSoftware
Software is changing
Open source maintainers are burning out, AI is flooding repos with plausible-looking garbage, and vulnerability scanners are outpacing human patches. Going closed source isn't the answer.

going closed source now is locking the gates while the guards are still outside. Good read by @adamconway.ie www.xda-developers.com/cal-went-clo...
Cal.com just went closed source over AI, but AI is exactly why open source still wins
Going closed source now feels like the wrong move.

I miss ascii in excalidraw. So here is glyphfield: a copyable text canvas so you can ditch the svgs and bitmaps in your docs. sams.tngl.io/glyphfield
We're still in the process of building some infrastructure. But to the question, "CaN wE sEe ANyThInG yEt?". Yes. And we'll be able to use it soon, too 👀
been hacking on managed PDS hosting for the ATmosphere. goal: zero config, just works. still super early but it's coming together nicely

has someone recently used an iPad for (web) development? There has been this 2021 approach to just host a VSCode instance and use it in the browser. But are there local alternatives today that are really usable?
