Friends ask where the most helpful place is to buy my book. All sources help in different ways. For instance, if you order from Amazon and later decide to write a review, Amazon weights that review more heavily when it calculates how many stars to award a book. 1/

I'd never heard of a duress passcode before the DOJ filed these charges. Now I really want one. I bet a lot of people are having that same day today.
New, by me: The Justice Department is prosecuting an American for allegedly providing U.S. border agents with a "duress" passcode that wiped the contents of his phone when they entered it. We've confirmed the phone was running GrapheneOS. Bypass for ad-blockers: web.archive.org/web/20260724...
if you want to see normally sclerotic do-nothing local governments suddenly snap into action, do some quietly beneficial tactical urbanism type thing like this and watch how quickly they race to remove it
The DSA in Wilmingotn, N.C. has created a "crisis" by putting benches at city bus stops, after literal decades of the city promising and failing to do so.
And your state, county, and municipality can all play Robin Hood.

If you want to a little window into the FDA, here's someone well worth following.
A recent article in the Pink Sheet said that CDER hired more people than left in 3rd quarter 2026. All very well, except: 1. They didn't say what the status of the FDA overall is. CBER is still losing people in net and I know for certain that some of the "gains" in CDER are transfers from CBER.

Music Review: The Waterboys’ Excellent ‘Atlantic Rain: The Lost Fisherman’s Blues Recordings’ • Americana Highways
More than a decade after they supposedly released everything from their prolific "Fisherman's Blues" period, the Waterboys unearth more great music from that era.

Setting aside the fact that vaccines do not cause autism, this assumes the existence of a child with autism is such a bad outcome that it’s preferable for a child to die of measles encephalitis.
Trump is pushing RFK Jr. to move faster to cut the number of vaccines kids get and to advance the science on autism.

I wrote a thing about cultivating beginner's mind and the inevitable failure of film adaptations back when Peter Jackson's first film of The Hobbit came out. Rereading it now with Nolan's Odyssey in mind, I think my piece holds up pretty well: blackgate.com/2012/12/27/t... #TheOdyssey #Tolkien #SFF

I think this is onto something. The fixation on lethality, testosterone, hypermasculinity—all that—makes those fixated want to look away from what the Iliad and Odyssey show us about combat trauma. Nolan's film makes me want to reread Jonathan Shay's Achilles in Vietnam and Odysseus in America.
Saw The Odyssey last night and realized there’s another reason the right’s rage furbys are foaming at their mouths over the film. It is deeply antiwar, making an argument that builds incident by incident. Nolan’s sin: making explicit the vicious destructiveness of “heroic” ambition and violence.
“Ultimately, Magic Mike XXL isn’t a hero’s journey, because it doesn’t believe in heroes... Instead of heroes, sexy dancing. Instead of telling the story of why the king is the king, sexy dancing” How have we had weeks of Odyssey discourse without citing this @hellafitzgerald.bsky.social banger?

In fact, I am in the market for a vehicle. Younger Kid is a drummer and needs a vehicle big enough to carry his whole percussion instrument collection so he can start gigging. Won't be looking at anything from #GeneralMotors.
GM CEO Mary Barra is introducing Trump at his rally. Something to keep in mind if you're in the market for a vehicle anytime soon.

When my post-pandemic-homeschooling-burnout-plus-OMG-my-91yo-FIL-might-move-in turned into a full depressive crash, one of the things that saved my life was K.C. Davis’s book How to Keep House While Drowning.
This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.
I don’t trust the DNC’s taste in candidates, so my campaign donations go directly to candidates and to orgs like The Leaders We Deserve. The DNC is nothing but an incumbent protection program.
