An important negative trial!
The ADC sacituzumab govitecan (Trodelvy) failed to outperform chemotherapy as first treatment after endocrine therapy for metastatic hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer, a randomized trial showed. #SABCS25 @breastcancerdoc.bsky.social www.medpagetoday.com/meetingcover...
New research from #SABCS25 suggests acupuncture may help ease “chemo brain.” 🎧 Hear Dr. Jun Mao of @mskcancercenter.bsky.social explain more about the results of his research on our podcast today: https://bit.ly/4pE6TH1 #BreastCancer #Breastcancerresearch
I’ve received multiple death threats + doxing (including my home address) directly following harassment from Turning Point USA, Jack Posobiec, Andy NGO, + Fox News which called me an antifa ‘financier.’ I have been forced to move my classes online. If journalists want to talk, DM me or reply here.
So much great research coming out at #ASCO25 that will have a major impact for patients with #breastcancer And as a community med onc, thrilled to see new data come out for several agents we have in clinical trials & can offer to our patients close to home! 🏡

Researchers at MD Anderson are leading the way with studies like the Diet and Immune Effects Trial (DIET), which explores how diet may impact response to cancer treatment. New results from this important study will be shared at #ASCO25. Learn more: http://spr.ly/63324N2YtA #EndCancer
Nutrivention: Food as medicine
Nutrivention is using dietary interventions to impact response to cancer treatment. Increasing fiber intake can improve response rates for patients undergoing immunotherapy treatment for melanoma because fiber is a food source for beneficial bacteria in our gut microbiome. Increasing fiber intake to even just 30 grams per day may lead to positive changes.

In advance of #ASCO25, @cmannunziata.bsky.social told me, “We are worried that the cuts to the NIH will drastically impact our ability to do research, to find these new molecular mechanisms of cancer and develop new cures. If we don't have the funding to do the research, this will not happen.”

That’s the same basic idea behind the current system of indirect cost rates for universities. A university has buildings with labs and furniture and electricity and IT systems (and on and on). They don’t need to buy those things all over again each time a new research study is funded. 7/
I’m trying to figure out where all my cancer meds are manufactured tonight while worrying about access and shortages. It sure is a fun time to have cancer!
Let’s try something. We here at @altnih4science.bsky.social want to boost descriptions of NIH-funded science. If you’re a scientist with a post or thread that describes your work, please tag us or DM us, and we’ll repost. We’ll use the #NIHFundsGreatScience hashtag so people can read in future. 🧪

Who knew “and then they came for the cancer patients” was gonna be so high up in the poem?
The administration is murdering cancer patients
I was set to enter a clinical trial in February. It's since been canceled. You are spot on with "cancer itself will not agree to such a delay." #Cansky
"...if NCI-supported trials really are delayed or suspended for a meaningful amount of time, that means delayed discoveries, delayed drug approvals, delayed potential treatments for people whose cancer will not itself agree to such a delay." I talk to multiple people inside NCI and NIH:
Most folks do not understand how far in advance the planning and logistics of NIH grants take. We prepare for months or years for these submissions for one of 3 cycles per year. This study section cancellation delays grants by at least 6 months when study sections are cancelled.
Today a reporter reached out to me after seeing posts I made on Bluesky about what’s going on at NIH. Keep typing, keep talking, keep shouting, because your voice goes beyond the void.
I know there’s a lot happening, but this is critical: Study sections at the NIH have been shut down. ➡️ No reviews = No grants ➡️ No grants = No research ➡️ No research = No NIH This threatens the future of science & medicine. #MedSky #HealthPolicy #NIH
