Me, excited someone replied to my newsletter. …Oh, they want to be removed from the list.

Things that get an auto-block from me: - AI slop - Genocide denial - Inventing horrible things other people did to justify doing horrible things to them - obvious propaganda bots
The biotech funding paradox: you need money to get data. But you need data to get money.
If you reply to people exactly as a robot would when doing your job, then maybe a robot should be doing your job. I am talking about university administrators, of course.
So I was right about the planned attacks and their predicted response. Thank goodness for TACO, I guess?
This means the US is about to launch a major attack on Iran and they expect retaliation in these places. If they are urging civilians to leave, it likely means they have planned many civilian infrastructure targets in Iran, since Iran reliably responds in kind to the types of attacks it receive 😔

US embassies across the Middle East have issued new security alerts today urging Americans to exercise heightened caution and urged citizens to depart the region. The alerts were issued in the following countries: Oman, Iraq, the UAE, Qatar, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait
Whenever I get vaguely annoyed about EU regulations and daydream about moving back to the US, I almost immediately get reminded that I would live my life in a blinding rage if I did. I think I will go eat some salad now.
I thought up that example. I don't know if it's really happening. But here's something that really *is* happening: ecommerce sites charge parents of newborns extra when they order thermometers in the middle of the night. 14/
The genocide of Jewish people called “holocaust” The genocide of Native Americans called “discovery” The genocide of Palestinian called “self-defense” The genocide of Lebanese called “security threat” Language matters. A genocide is unjustifiable wherever happens. Never again
”Genocide denial” REALLY needs to be a category you can use to report comments. Here and everywhere else tbh.
Carbon must be taxe directly and heavily so that the cost of goods includes the true externalized cost. That revenue should be used for building new (fire-resistant) homes for the 250,000 climate refugees we now have in Europe. Removing the subsidies will also make bio-based alternatives cheaper.
In 7th and 8th grade, I had an English teacher that required us to read… 400(?) pages of whatever we wanted per month. Could be 1 long book, 4 short books, whatever, as long as we were reading. (This was in addition to the usual assigned reading). 1/
My wife is reading The Stand for the first time and sharing updates with me as she goes. I read it seven times (I think) and I am so excited.
Feeling embarrassed for France right now.

“Ministerial” is an adjective, right? Did they want a Department but didn’t have Congress behind it, and thought “Ministry“ sounded too British? So they decided to invent a new word?
Opening a new tab and forgetting why. It’s walking into a new room and forgetting why for our lazy, addled brains. (Ugh I need a phone detox)
It’s just crazy that we are fighting a war for cheaper oil when the world is ablaze in climate-change caused wild fires. Wars are always pointless. But has there ever been one that was also such a complete and glaring self-own?
If/when you get some money, you can go, “I‘m so lucky! I want to help those who are less fortunate while staying comfortable.” Or you can go, “I must hoard this and accrue as much more as possible.” This part of human nature is why I think capitalism dooms us to be ruled by literal psychopaths.
I’m opposed to the death penalty. A shocking number of innocent people are murdered this way. Even if they are guilty, it doesn’t fix anything, it doesn’t deter further crime, it is pure revenge (not justice). However I have recently revised my position for two exceptions: - War crimes - Treason
A family of swans visited us at the cabin. Ada Sofia had a moment with the mamma swan.
It’s 43 minutes past midnight. This is downtown Oslo.
I think maybe tomorrow is canceled
I hope there is a massive power outage* that lasts for at least a week through the US during this upcoming heatwave. They won’t be able to hide in AC and will be forced to confront the reality of the climate crisis. Then maybe some actual change can happen *preferably attributable to data centers
Mens Wear Guy does it again. The whole thread is gold. But I nearly woke my 4-year-old with an unstoppable snort-laugh when I reached this part. Threatened anteater! 🤣🤣🤣
This is especially true if a man is built like a threatened anteater. Miller has relatively narrow shoulders and wide hips, which means there's not much shape through the torso.
If these OMB amendments go through, that will mark the end of US as the world leader in cutting edge tech and science. The best research talent in the world will stop concentrating in the US because of these changes -- and they will go elsewhere or stay home. It is such an avoidable "self-own".
This is amazing. Over 140k comments and counting on proposed OMB amendments. Here's mine. www.regulations.gov/comment/OMB-...
After giving it an honest go, I am not at all convinced AI for text generation increases my work productivity. I seem to spend as much (if not more) time editing its output as I would have if I just written the damn thing myself. Maybe one day this will no longer be true. But that day is not today.
Since we can't do politicians, I would have to go with crabs. You may point out that there are many types crabs. So, which one do I mean? I don't know and that's kind of the point. Carsinisation is wild! www.theguardian.com/environment/...
