What happens if editors invite postdocs as referees? We have shown that we get rigorous, timely, high-quality reviews, and finally give young scientists the recognition they deserve. I’m proud to have contributed to this initiative with @reviewcommons.org, @embopress.org, @embo.org and @embl.org
Learn about the new #EarlyCareer researcher #PeerReview initiative launched by EMBO: https://www.embo.org/features/embo-launches-early-career-researcher-peer-review-initiative/ 🧪
It was a very cool experiment! The author-centric perspective makes a lot of sense. An important next step is to benchmark multiple AI review platforms. Maybe this can also pave the way for benchmarking human peer review across journals and defining "quality features" of the peer review process.
It’s finally out! Together with @embopress.org and @reviewcommons.org, we conducted a structured side-by-side comparison of human peer review and our AI scientific review (see thread 👇👇👇🔥).
Great discussion and excellent engagement from participants in this pilot to involve ECRs in peer review. A very promising start for this initiative at @embopress.org and @reviewcommons.org. Thanks to all the postdocs for the the enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions.
Yesterday, EMBO Press hosted a #webinar "Peer review in practice: Insights from EMBO Press editors" part of a pilot project in collaboration with EMBL, aimed at encouraging the engagement of postdocs in the #PeerReview process. 🧪 #LifeSciences #research

One of the important benefits of @reviewcommons.org is having a peer-reviewed preprint, which to an increasing number of funders counts as a published paper @embo.org Saves important time for trainees to have their work recognized.
I LOVE @reviewcommons.org Highly recommended
This preprint is now a published peer-reviewed paper! Thanks to all the co-authors involved, to the funders and to @reviewcommons.org and @embopress.org @emboreports.org for a smooth editorial process! Excited to see this in press! www.embopress.org/doi/full/10.... @imperiallifesci.bsky.social
Next, at #EYSF2025 @reviewcommons.org is presented by @saramonaco-rc.bsky.social. It’s journal-agnostic, concentrates on science only and can save time as the peer-reviewed preprints can easily be resubmitted. How great would it be if we could ditch publishing and switch to reviewed preprints?
