i really think our language could fit one more word for attaching each of someone’s limbs to a different chariot and dismembering them
For all you teachers out there using Moodle. AI tools are default on but can be turned off.
I once had a longtime criminal defense attorney tell me he felt guilty people often said “there’s no way this could have happened because of X, Y and Z,” instead of ”this did not happen because I did not do it.”
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"

This dreary continual rain is making crave soup.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
Endometriosis takes nine years to diagnose. That’s about to change. NICE has approved two tests: a saliva test reading microRNA markers, and a gut-sensor test returning results in 45 minutes, sparing women the keyhole surgery currently needed. buff.ly/QX3jHk8 #ShareGoodNewsToo

I’m not sure bingeing all six seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale has been super great for my mental health but I’ve only got one episode to go.

Half the planet is having a massive fight about how to correctly interpret an Ancient Greek poem but go ahead, close some more humanities departments.
I paid a PhD in linguistics who speaks Cantonese and Mandarin a small fee to make sure my name wasn’t crazy town.
the wikipedia article "Official Cantonese translations of English names for British officials" has a fairly long section about how one english governor got his name translated to toilet bowl and this motivated setting up a translation service for names
the reason why himesh patel couldn't be odysseus was because the movie's budget was $250 million
In this piece, I regret the paragraph about the uses of the POC actors - who are all great, but IMO under-utilized (and why couldn‘t Himesh Patel be Odysseus instead?) I still think the film largely wastes its strong cast, but I framed it badly.
No shade to Avel, but thankfully we don’t all know so explanations like this are super helpful. I don’t want to know all the fashie references but I appreciate when they’re pointed out.
Would assume everyone knows it by now, but just in case "First the traitors, then the invaders" is an explicit reference to The Turner Diaries, where a white supremacist revolution overruns "The System" and kills all their enemy during the evocatively named "Day of the Rope".

Love a good prof slam: “It’s bewildering. It seemed weird and laughable,” Davis said of the indictment. “It felt like the length of the indictment was a cover for how thin it actually was. I’m a professor. I’ve seen people pad out papers when they’ve got nothing to say.”

Tfw when you don’t know the difference between a copy editor and a fact checker…
I've written a few books and checked all the quotes (deleting some bangers because I doubted their authenticity) and if you're letting fabricated ones slip through then you're cutting corners in an egregious way. It is not the copy-editor's job to check every source, it's yours. Do the damn work
