Disney has now shelved three episodes featuring storylines centered on transgender characters and gender identity. The episodes, from ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,’ ‘The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,’ and ‘Win or Lose,’ were either cut from release or have since leaked online.

Non-queer shows are allowed to get as raunchy as they please (see: Bridgerton), but there’s still a squeamishness around depicting queer sex in the US. Our media companies continue to miss out on profit over their refusal to commit to queer stories! We see it time and again. #SaveQueerStories

“Heated Rivalry” was made in Canada because US execs wanted to tone down the gay sex - www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/03/heat...

This is a great little bit of investigation! Our data reflects the same - despite comparable cost and viewership, queer shows just don’t get as much of a chance. Boots had the numbers and the buzz. Thank you @bernardosim.com ! #SaveQueerStories

Netflix's latest Engagement Report showed relatively strong viewership of the gay Marines series compared with other shows that were renewed. Here are some theories why it was canceled.

It’s equal parts validating and disappointing to see GLAAD’s data align so closely with our own study’s. We hope our data can provide a comparison between how this trend functions for queer inclusion vs average. These numbers on their own are upsetting. In context, even more so. #SaveQueerStories

"Over 84 million American adults say they’re more likely to watch a TV show if it features at least one LGBTQ+ character,” Townsend said. "… This audience has continued to tune in year after year.”

Thank you @bjcolangelo.bsky.social for this article! Queer-inclusive shows like Dead End were already struggling for support, lacking promotion and getting canceled early and more often. We need these narratives and should be supporting them now!

With folks rediscovering the canceled Dead End: Paranormal Park, let's discuss what makes Netflix's animated family show a streaming series worth embracing.

1. Led by Elon Musk, the far-right has exploded in a campaign to get Netflix to remove shows with queer and trans characters. If Netflix capitulates to their demands, an already strained market for LGBTQ+ animators might become even more dire. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Elon Musk Leads Campaign To Force Netflix To Remove Shows With Trans Characters

The grim aspect of this retroactive outrage is that the fascists already won on this front. These people are getting mad about shows from the '10s and early '20s because there's vanishingly few now. They've already been purged. But fascism can never "win", it always looks backward for more enemies.

This is proof that conservative parents don't spend actual time with their kids (well, we know Graham doesn't). If they did, they'd know that there have been queer characters on Netflix (and Disney, Nickelodeon etc.) for decades. Like, they're only just discovering Dead End Paranormal Park.
