Today I learned that Notre Dame Cathedral has held one wedding since the 2019 fire, and it was for the guy who spent 3+ years leading the carpenters fixing the roof, using 800-year-old methods down to cutting the new timbers with an ax, so now I have agreed with the pope twice in a year? Wild times.

Nerdily, I think think this is because Mamdani’s team conducted strength-based research - they also asked people what they’d LOVE to see happen, not just what was aggravating. Then a team went and figured out which ones of them could be accomplished within the current budget and: win after win.
This summer, we kept the lights on all night, every night, at five soccer fields across New York City. This was the scene at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend, Brooklyn Tuesday night.
My new little hobby is that every time I see someone on social media complaining about their library being closed Sunday or having to buy 14 glue sticks I remind them that this happens when the city/town cuts the school or library budget, again, so they can give more money to police for equipment.

I am here for all of the hate of JD Vance’s new book, but also thinking about all of the books that won’t get more coverage because his took up all of the oxygen.
Okay, dads, let’s be better than our fathers again tomorrow. (Even if you had a great dad. Every father wants his kids to do better than he did; that’s the dream, right? And if you didn’t, do it for your kids.)
So tired of all this “When’s veterans month? When’s mental health month?” THEY ALL EXIST. We just do a better job with ours, and that’s on queer audacity and craft supplies.
I watch this video of Lin Manuel Miranda at the Obama White House (when they had poetry, not cage fighting ::sigh::) on hard days so I can enjoy everyone’s rising excitement and delight as they all see the very fresh damp beginning of something great. youtu.be/WNFf7nMIGnE?...

I need the internet to know that this morning someone corrected me *incorrectly* and since it doesn’t affect anything I have chosen to let it go; please clap for my maturity, however fleeting it may prove to be.
If I had some funding to come to people’s homes and tell queer stories for an hour to whoever they invited, would you invite me? If so, where do you live? (I would not stay over; I’d appear and tell stories and maybe eat and then go.) What would you want to know to decide if you could host this?
Every day until this book is done, if I get 1k words written, I get to post a snippet to sustain the dopamine. Today’s: “I have leaned into the alchemy of just plain storytelling: the frank magic of hosteling my feelings into words on the page and sending them out to seek their fortunes where,”

Today I read a review of my new show that described it as, among other very nice compliments: “…if Spalding Gray were alive, and happy.” I’ll take that any day. gender-defiant.ghost.io/the-first-je...

Boston friends, check out Bear's show! I was lucky enough to see it last year, and it was such a great evening of storytelling!
Boston! Come see the show @broadwayworld.com called “skillful, deeply affecting, funny and sad and sweet and difficult and true,” and @intermissionmag.bsky.social says is “a solo show with a sense of heart and honesty that'll leave your cheeks wet and your chest warm.” TICKETS! bpt.me/6732394

I am having a hot bath because I’m fighting a cold. While soaking, I finished the water in my glass, and then had the thought that I wished I could stay in but I really needed a drink of water. So I would obviously need to get out. Of the bathtub. To get water. (The cold may be winning.)
When my children sass me, I just remember that as a child who could not keep my nose out of a book, I got many scoldings about watching what I was doing. Once my mother was particularly aggravated and I said yes, she should go complain to the other mothers about her child that won’t stop READING.
Some years ago, a Jamaican friend introduced me to the phrase “no broughtupsy” and while I don’t use it (feels appropriative; I am a middle aged white Jew from New York) I do find that I think it a whole lot these days.

Can we not just accept that we need all the different kinds of brains to do all the different kind of human things? Because I am FOR SURE not keeping a 17-volume-and-counting detailed record of my decades of effort in restoring heirloom apple varieties, but I’m very glad someone is. ::crunch::
Little wins but Troy Kostur looking hot (without additional context) in the Bottega Veneta ad wrapper for the Sunday NYT about the poetry of gesture qualifies I think.
